Title: I'm in love...
Post by: clonmore1 on November 14, 2011, 09:52:21 AM
Visited the Classic car & bike show here in the UK at the weekend and "chanced" upon the Harley Davidson stand.

And, I have to say that I saw one of these in the flesh and it was just gorgeous :D

I may have to buy one now!!!!

I really don't want to do the whole "Harley" thing and get all dressed up etc, but I am going to test ride one in the new year and who knows?

Contemplating crossing over to the H-D alternative lifestyle dark side, are we? [smiley=beehive.gif]

Yes Chris - on the chance that I were to win a lottery, I could see a Road King in my new temperature-controlled facility!

775 pounds.  That really makes me want to intensify my search for a Triumph 500 twin.

Ed,

That's my big (!) worry, it's a lot of weight, I only sat on it at the show and couldn't do much else, the weight seems low down. Wouldn't want to try and reverse up a slight incline though...

The test ride will see

That looks like my "Dream Harley" when I was 10 years old, except mine was Black and White with white streamers coming out the end of the handle bars. I was reading the specks on your link page and I could not make any sense out of the fuel milage stats. Am I alone with this problem? D2

The Road King is the one H-D model that I like the looks of - if I ever own one it will be that model, though I Admit that the likelihood is fairly low.   Maybe because it looks so much like the older H-D bikes of the 60s, 70s, etc.   The Ultra Classics are just too much..

The weight IS very low, so it isn't as unmanageable as it might seem, until you have to push it somewhere up an incline - then you'll REALLY wish you had a 500 twin!

Me too - It appears that it consumes about 1 litre per 2 km which would give it a fantastic range of 40 km - if it didn't break down first!

All will be revealed on the test ride I'm sure!

It does look nice though... :P

I have a HD Ultra Classic - only 900 pounds - I love it - I enjoy my RT but when I'm going on the big road for a bunch of miles - The Ultra is my choice

Before you bash something you should at least own one or talk to someone who owns one - Harley Davidson are building some of the finest motorcycles in the world today - They don't leak oil - i hit the starter & it fires up - I don't have spline issues to worry about - At speed the engine is very smooth - smoother than my r65 - You simply don't know what the hell your talking about sir - If you can't afford a new Harley thats your problem not the problem of other folks here on the forum that migh enjoy them - When you slander HD you are also slandering me - I don't know know if there is a ignor member option with this forum but if there is i will use - I find your comments totally uncalled for -

The Ultra handles very well in the city - Like all air cooled motors you will get some heat off the enging when stopped at signal lights but on the road it's a non-issue - The Ultra handles just as well as my GoldWing did - Goldwings had parking lot steering issues until the GL1800 came out - I like RK's but the Ultra rides better on the Highway & thats what I have the HD for is on the Big Roads - also Harley makes a "A" engine & a "B" engine - the B engine is balanced & thats the motor the RK has - it  has very little vibration at idle but when up to speed they vibrate - On my Ultra it shakes - rattles & rolls at idle but at speed it smooth - I had a power commander installed & a DYNO Tune when I installed the new intake & exhaust - - It smoothed my engine a lot - money well spent - Because of the EPA these motors really run lean!!!!!! thats the reason for that mod - HD doesn't want to sell these engines running this lean but they are forced to do so - Folks ride harleys for much the same reason many folks ride Airheads - They have a special feel - a feel that a new Goldwing or BMW water pumper just can't give you -

Gently folks --  Not my cup of tea but if it's yours then thats OK with me.

The world is a bad enough place what with all the texting cage drivers.  We don't need to eat our own.  Life's too short for all that!   [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif]

Just yesterday leading a group of BMWMOGA riders up the gorge into Highland NC on NC 28 I got this picture.

That's a wheelchair besides the seat.  I don't know him and I don't ride his brand but that is a Brother up there so y'all play nice.   8-)
