Title: first time on a Buell
Post by: rob650 on June 18, 2010, 12:21:41 PM
XB9S that i borrowed from a friend for the day.  Holy crap on a cracker, I didn't know that kind of acceleration and power was possible from an HD v-twin.  I was grinning like an idiot (not hard to do for me) all day long, racking up the miles on back roads and empty straights.  I was totally impressed with this bike, would buy one just like it in a second if I had the funds.

Anyone else take a Buell for a ride and came away surprised/impressed?

I haven't, but when I went to the OVM show a while back somebody parked a Lightening by my R65.  Such a tiny package of power, it was lust at first sight.  I would love to ride one.

Eric Buell will resurface at some point in the future with another magnificent study in motorcycle design. The powers that be at Harley-Davidson continue to show their lack of forethought.

I've never been on a HD.  I'd always assumed that I must be spoiled by the smoothness of the R65 and Harley V-Twins would, in all cases, be as irritating as hell by comparison.  Is this not the case?

It's always been my chief concern.  Maybe I'll have another look.

The HD's smoothed considerably once the designers went with rubber engine mounts. These days. the Hogs are smooth as single barrel whiskey.[smiley=beer.gif]

The new Sporty frame has rubber mounts. The big twins have rubber mounts on some models and counter balancers on others.

i haved loved buells since i rode one in 85. i was working at a fiberglass place that made all the buell racing bodies. that was before eric sold his soal to the devil willie g. they were race only machines. eric showed up one day with the 1000 one made and asked if anyone want to ride it. i jumped at the chance. i took off in a blurr. i was told eric looked at the others and said that was a mistake? everyone laughed at him as i came back on the highway going way faster than the traffic.

i had a chance to ride a buell at road america during the ama races. eric walked up to me and he remembered me being that crazy kid. he put me on a lighting and we rode the track between races! talk about fun! to be able to run a bike like it was built for on a track that was built for racing!! i couldnt get the smile off my face for weeks.
