well this week has been educational. being on holidays I've finally given some time to my 1950 sunbeam s7 deluxe. at the car club had a retired panel beater showing me how to straighten the mudguard with an english wheel and then using hammer and dolly. looks like it will be less body filler than i originally thought. i've coated a few parts with por-15 paint and they look good before I apply the spray filler and final lacquer coat,
the mechanical jigsaw puzzle is starting to make some small progress. :)

Our car club has a lease for the old QANTAS hangar in Darwin.
Built in 1930 something. It's heritage listed and still bears schrapnel damage and bullet holes from when the japs bombed Darwin.
the main hangar is full of members restored cars, bikes, even a steam traction engine and a small steam train. Stationary engines and billboards on Darwin's involvement in world war 2.
The side annexes are used by members for restoring vehicles, we have access to lathes, sand blasters, hoists, etc. And all the old retired members who use it as a hangout are a fountain of knowledge.
Bit like coming here for BMW, the club is great for vintage and classic cars/trucks.

ooh the sunbeam now has shiny black bits.
POR-15 successfully applied to front and rear mudguards.
during painting I learnt a valuable lesson about making sure things to be painted are secured in their hanging position.
Last night was spent rubbing back stones, dirt, etc that embedded into the wet paint after it fell on the floor while I was painting.
now this is only the rust preventative undercoat it's a slow process but I'm getting there. Told wifey-poo it was a seven year project, and I've only owned it for 2 years now.

Nice project. My most recent Oregon Vintage Motorcyclist newsletter has a 1950 Sunbeam on the cover. It's not a great picture though. A few years ago our Corvallis ride was led by a guy on a Sunbeam.
