I am trying to find out if I can fit a windshield for my 1979 R65. The bike is stock, the bars are short and the rubber dash cover leaves no room for a bar mounted windshield. Have any of you guys figured it out or have any suggestions?

The National Cycle Street Shield worked for me on my 1984. JCWhitney says it will work on a 1979 model. I've been happy with it. they also make larger and smaller models.

Thank you for responding Drew. Good suggestion, I may try the Street Shield or Street Shield EX. I attached a pic of my bars showing little real estate. Do you think it will mount or will I have to use a razor blade (only kidding).

Looks like you have clipons...much smaller than mine! There are some headlight mounted screens that might work for you. Givi makes one that I have on mine as well as a little S-type screen that JC Whitney sells. They were both mounted using the headlight brackets, so not having room on the bar matters.
There have been a couple of threads on windshields lately. Do a search and you should find lots more discussion of this.

Not much room there at all! I can't tell but if you have about 1 1/2 inches of straight bar available you MIGHT make them fit. I don't see space between the dash panel and the brake MC though.
Perhaps the headlight ear mounted ones would work but I have no experience with them.

I have a Manxman fairing on my R65, I have narrow bars, no issues with clearances.
Check out: http://www.bikescreen.com/categories.asp
type Manxman in search, see manxman 65 with standard and 'spoiler' windscreens.

I have the same handlebar as you do, E.m.
I bought a 2nd dash and cut it up when I tried mounting a windshield.
You can have it, if you want.

Rob, thank you, I will take you up on your offer. I think that is a simple solution to my problem. I sent you an email. John

I put a Givi A750 on my '79. It attaches to the headlight studs.
