Title: For suecanada re F650
Post by: msbuck on December 12, 2006, 05:26:47 PM
(I keep getting an error trying to reply to your PM, so I decided to post here instead.)

Sue,

I did a little digging and this is what I've found.  I located a repair order for Rob Gardner on Vin ZL40344.  I did an inquiry with BMWNA and found out that it was sold at Carolina BMW in Greensboro NC (Capitol's sister store).  It was registered as a demo on 3/31/2004 and has warranty coverage through 5/31/2007.

I got to thinking and BMWNA is for North America, which includes Canada.  I would think that your dealer in Canada has access to the same info that I pulled up.  They should also deal with BMWNA, so there may not be any issues for you at all.  We always just pull the BMWNA inquiry at the shop when someone comes in for warranty service.  We never ask for a copy of the original bill of sale.  I can print out the inquiry, scan it and email to you if you think you need it.  Just let me know!

Aïda

I agree.   [smiley=thumbsup.gif] Maybe  Aïda could arrange some group purchases for us to get some neat toys?  :D

Just a thought... ;)

For the record, the people at Carolina BMW in Greensboro are some fine, fine folks too.
They're only about 1/2 mile off I-40, so if you're ever passing thru please stop in and say "hi" to Jason and the gang, especially George, their lead mechanic. He works on all their "old stuff" (like we ride), and is the same guy who helped me sort out the electrics back in 1980 on a BSA I rebuilt from boxes and bags of parts.
Hadn't seen him in 25 years until I rolled the R65 into their shop about a year ago... :)
You can visit them at their new website, www.carolinaeuro.com.

I have to admit that I enjoy going up to the Greensboro store as well.  Capitol is not as 'airhead friendly' as Carolina.  I love to go in and see all the old bikes they have there and the folks are really nice.  (Not that we're not nice at Capitol...   ::) )  Whenever we're looking for a nice Saturday afternoon ride, we usually head out on the backroads to Greensboro.  Steve, maybe we can meet up there one day.

Hey, if there's any group purchase that needs to be made, I can probably work something out...  ;)

If the F650GS was registered on march 31, 2004, I wonder why it is truly a 2005 model??? It was made in Jan. 2004 too. Old bike. And by the time May 31, 2007 comes along I'll be just getting back on the road after winter. Maybe have 1 month of riding only. I guess the warranty deal is a moot point for me.

Thank you so much Aïda for your legwork on this. I did write you back but I'd better write to Rob Garner before he pulls his house apart.
