Title: R65LS colour confusion
Post by: chrisr65ls on October 21, 2008, 11:25:30 PM
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if the R65LS's were ever brought out in a gunmetal grey colour?
I am trying to work out if my R65LS's colour is original or not. There is a sticker under the seat that says 'Color 563' however when I look this up it seems to be a light silver colour. If the bike was repainted then its a good job as the colour is consistant even under the seat and mud guard.
thanks for your help.

Check this site for color code info. How about posting up a photo of your scooter?

Yes, Code 563 would be the Polaris Metallic Silver factory color paint used on the 84 R65LS, and others bikes that year.

That doesn't look "gunmetal" to me.  I always thought the 563 R65 was more of a "white with a twist", for the loss of a better description.  How about "metallic ivory"?

This page has some pictures of 563's: http://www.cafeboxer.com/WebScrapings/r65st.htm

Chris,

One of the hallmarks of a high-dollar/high-end paint job is the inability to tell it was repainted.  When you refer to "mudguard" are you referring to the rear fender?  You don't list your year (although I doubt it matters) but I'm fairly certain all R65s (US market anyway) came with an unpainted black plastic rear fender.  If your rear fender matches the paint on the tank then at least the rear fender has been painted and most likely the entire bike.

Don't sweat it, if you like it be happy that your's stands out from the herd!

Your 563 is supposed to be the same as my 612 Polaris Silver:

(Hard to show it in a picture)

Maybe a bit less blue / green.

Looks very nice!

If it were a factory paint job, there would be a flat black panel running along the bottom edge of either side of the tank.

No pinstripes on a LS.

You must be proud!
