Went looking for any pictures of my old bikes and found this taken on my first visit to Texas in my mates car.

In the first photo, just under the underpass is where JFK and Texas Gov John were hit.

What year was this? And where's all the traffic, Lou? Today, you'd be caught up in the usual Dallas road rage rodeo.  [smiley=mad.gif]

Follow the arrow and come ride with me sine I can only ride one of the R65s at a time.

The pointy headed building in the first photo is Fountain Place.  I worked in that building from '89 until '06 with some time off for bad behavior in Yemen.  I imagine I've driven/ridden under that triple underpass at least 5,000 times literally.

You should take Monte up on his offer.  He rides pretty fast and smoothly.  But be forewarned, he likes to drink training beer.   ;D

As i recall it was probably 1989 we flew Pan Am so it must have been before 91. Did all the tourist stuff JFK memorial, Book depository(i dont buy that one) Elm street grassy knoll ect.
I was there for 3 weeks we went all over Houston, Galveston (before it blowed away) Aquerina, San Antone  ect ect.
The Space Center was brilliant and we had lunch at Felix,s restaurant of ZZ top fame sadly now shut.(904 Westheimer)
The car was a "bronco brownish"  (do you recognise the hood badge) i think it was a Caddy or a Lincoln and we waltzed across Texas in it.
My friend Terry lived in Austin so we were only in Dallas for the day
Then we went to the rodeo at Mesquite and stayed in a nearby motel
he now lives near the Louisiana border in Orange.
I sincerely hope to ride with you guys one day in the not too distant future.  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
Lou
ps, I recall drinking a brew called Little Kings ...definately not a training beer [smiley=1drink.gif] [smiley=beer.gif] [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Just spent the last 2 weeks or so in Cary, Ill trying NOT to drink the training beer, jeepers guys, it's light everything!

Show the Bulls on Saturday night which was fun.

Now having to deal with the lag problem, might even get some time on the bike this weekend!

Thanks for that! I need something happy after that news! Monte was only 1 month older than me and we had decided that we both have a ways to go.... :'(
My White Knight on the road is lost...You got over to visit, right? He never wanted to take on the crowds of a Rally so I never got to meet him. Just exchanged telephone numbers so I had all his just in case. We were comparing notes about NCAA football as well. Sigh....

I'm really kicking my prorastinating self this week.

I had a trip planned(for more than a few years) to his area. I was going to stop and see Mom and Dad. Dad grew up just North of Greenville Tx, and he and Mom are layed to rest there in Leonard Tx.

That trip  would have taken me thru Denton ( or real close)
and I wanted to meet Monte and chat up  our "R65 Will Rogers".

I should have made that ride before the sand ran out.......... :-/

Hi Sue
My Wife and I were lucky enough to tie up with Monte and Mike a couple of times and had (have) planned another visit Texas. His wit charm and generosity will be sorely missed.

Lou, on your next trip here maybe we can plan out and you can visit us at our cabin in OK.  No too far from the famous Talamina Trail!  Fantastic motorcycle road although not as good as the dragon...

Is this the one in the "Winding Star" Mountains ?

It is in the Ouachita National Forest and I seem to remember seeing signs about "Winding Stair" something or other.  Our cabin is on Walker Mountain
