Title: Big Bore kit
Post by: H8terboi on October 16, 2008, 07:47:13 AM
Anyone know where I can get a C&C big bore kit for the R65 or if other manufacturers make a similar kit.

I know... I know... I have read all the cautions about proceeding down this path, but I am bored and the bike is never gonna achieve collector status since so many of them were made.  I have the base model and not the LS.  Figure I might as well try to get a little more HP and torque out of it.

Any other suggestions on money wasting upgrades?  Let me know.

Also looking to update the rear shocks.

Good luck!

I wish I had the money for this kind of fun and games.

I know of 3 UK based tuners that would happily hop up your bike for a price.

Andrew Sexton - Warwickshire
Jim Cray - Kent
Difazio - Frome Somerset.

None of this is any help to you as you are across the water - unless you can get one of them to suply the parts.

Here is some info I put out earlier:

"I have met the proprieter at a motorbike show a couple of times and also at a ride out last year.  Nice chap that knows his onions.

Here is a link to his shop for interest:

I draw you attention to the 750 and 850 versions of the R65 engine.  He uses lightwieght pistons to match a particular rebore size.  The make/type of piston is obviousely a closely guarded secret, otherwise we would all be doing it

The work is done in house and I am not sure of the cost...... "

Hope you find what you are looking for.

Don't laugh just yet, but a nitrous button would thrill. It's not that hard on the engine and would be a cheap alternative to major engine mods.

You would need a bit of machine shop work to craft a couple plates to fit between the carbs and the intake tubes but, hey, it's a real rush. Keep reliability with the basic engine and then dazzle 'em when you shift to third and caress the bottle!  [smiley=mad.gif]

I have seen a couple of R65s fitted with a turbocharger, though I don't know who the mfgr of the unit was or if it was a completely customized 1-up job by a clever machinist.   That would be VERY unique, as well, though could be kinda tough on the engine - hafta get the timing, valves and pistons all
adjusted to deal with the high temp operation, and of course, come up with a completely different carburetor setup.   you can go to this webpage, scroll
about 1/3 way down the pics of pretty R65s, and click on the "1982 R65LS with turbo" for closeups of such a setup.

why piss away all that money to make an unreliable turd, R100s are  everywhere and not really expensive. It will run circles around a modified R65.   Buy a R100RT, nobody loves them anymore, sell the hard bags, fairing parts, clock, volt meter, handlebars, crashbar ( need i go on?) on ebay and  have a nice R100 cafe for well under 2000.00,  sell the R65 to some newbie who will appreciate it.

lamont,   an R100  is my plan, FWIW... If we can recover from the current economic downturn AND my wife's house renovation craziness !
All my "mad money" is being turned into bathroom tile and kitchen cabinets and appliances - they look nice but aren't nearly so much fun.

Montmil,

Nitrous... hmmm!  Now you got me thinking.  Think I may single handedly stimulate the global economy with this performance upgrade.  Know of any sources on how to do this?
