Had a few hours to kill today, so I started looking at membership ranks and postings .
Since this current site was established, around the second week of November, 2006, after our spammer meltdown in September, 2006, and closing of the previous R65.org site .
I found that 15 members have made 50% of the postings, adding the next 15 members, that number goes to 62% of total posts made here .
That's 4% of current membership .
Members that have not been logged in and online for 365-729 days : 105 .
Members that have not been logged in and online for 730-1094 days : 69 .
Members that have not been logged in and online for 1095 days or longer : 102 .
Members that have joined the site in the last year and have not been online since : 66 .
Our current membership is 693 .
Just a bit under 50% of the membership have not been logged in and online in about a year .

Off with their heads i say! if they miss the forum they will log back in.

I agree with Tony. I hate to see the membership dwindle but there is no reason to carry a bunch of dead weight.

I think I've deleted in excess of 1200 members since becoming a moderator here .
I'm surprised that there are any R65 owners left !!!!!

Sounds like the grim reaper. I take it you save space on the website without all those members.

I fit Bob's mold at 10's of web sites(maybe 100's). I repair all my own stuff if possible and I'm always looking at web sites for information.
Trust me, I'm going to know what wrench I will need to pull the caliper pins long before I jerk the wheel off the car. With the internet I can do that. Been too many times laying on the ground and find out I need a T-6 or a metric allen to accomplish what I needed to do and not have it :-/
Now how does that make me a target of Bob's sword? Because when at the sites you usually can not "search" if you are not a "MEMBER" .........so I sign up as a card carrying member of said site, get my info , and never go back again.
Many times when I sign up they tell me that my email is already in use, because I had signed up at some point and forgotten about it and they never "culled" me.

Well,
Given the R45/R65 where not the top seller in the BMW line, and that those bikes are at least more than 20 years old, I wonder how many of them are "road ready" and still owned by "using" people ?
I own mine since 1984 and plan to use it as long as I can/will/be permitted to.
So Using my bike, I've to keep it in road shape and ask questions on the Web regarding maintenance, parts or special tooling.
But when I'll stop riding her, I bet I won't come here that often....
I own an Honda CBF which sits unused in the garage. Guess what ? I'm a member of Honda forums and did not visit since a very loooong time ;-)
I wonder if there is a problem carrying inactive members ? And what problem could it cause ?

I have a pal who is a well known individual in the area where I live, he used to race with the Lampkins back in the day.
He is helping me get the 65 back together as he owned one a few years back.
During our time together, he tells me often that there is a lot of 'treasure' (as he calls bikes hidden away and not used) and I am sure many of these owners belong to forums that they visit seldom.

The industrial unit I used to rent in Ossett has a Shipping Container in the yard, the site owners son has a R100 stashed in there that as not seen the light of day for 15 years to my knowledge, I asked if he wanted to sell it a few years back to which he replied he would think about it........ He came back with a price which was top $ for bike on the road [smiley=thud.gif] I told him I would think about it......not.
