Afternoon all, well after a four year or so hiatus (family, work and a major restoration of my R65ls etc meant I had to curtail the amount of time I spent on the web) I've re-registered on the board.
I still own my ridiculously high mileage R65ls, which is now very close to running once again. I rolled her into the shed at the end of 2010 when she failed her MOT not for anything mechanical, but because when she was on the break test rig the swing arm looked lose when the break was applied. Trailering her home I pulled the engine and gear box out and looked at cracked frame swing arm bracket on the left hand side. Deeper examination showed her frame was rotten and a doner was needed.
The bike was completely stripped and with the arrival of a doner the rebuild could begin. Well that was the plan until the effects of aging reared its head with the passing of my mother, then my father in law, and finally my father, a really happy time.
Any way eventually I was able to turn my attention to my bike and she's now getting close as the engine ran for the first time in five years last night. I'm attaching a few images of her over the years, and the various guises she's worn. I'll post the during and after restoration shots once I have her finished. [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif] Happy days!

Hi Tony,
Hopefully 2015 will be a little happier for you. Sounds like you have had a torrid time of it...
I could say the same, lost my Father, father in law and a few friends plus my business in 2013! Kind of tests your mettle. There are a few on here that have also had tough times recently with health issues, sign of the times and advancing years...
I really hope to have mine back on the road this year finally after almost 5 years, it's all done' just need to screw it all together again!
Post the pictures, love to see what you have done.

How many miles, Tony? Did you have a different user name? I remember one guy, handle Thrang I think, had over 400,000 on an R65. I think it was miles.

Thats me! I've still got that same the R65 its the one I am almost finished rebuilding. It finally died somewhere between 430 and 450 K before her frame snapped. So I'm rebuilding her in a salvaged frame off a doner bike on ebay though how much of the original bike I bought in the late 80's is still in it is a moot point. I'm picking up the tin work, front mud guard, seat unit and nose cone this weekend and hopefully have her taxed tested and legal to have her well shaken down before the Welsh National
Cheers T

That is cool, Tony. Mine is about 300 miles shy of it's first 100,000, so I'm not worried about wearing it out. I'm hoping it's oil leaks will suffice to prevent frame rust like yours, though. My Triumph's frame isn't rusty....

:) Perhaps I should not have been so anal about oil leaks. The rebuild version is now officially alive, she was running sweet as a nut about an hour ago for the first time under her own power, rather than an external battery and bodged up bench test ignition system.
Happy days!
