Title: Mixing tyre types and brands

The rear Metzeler on the twinshock R65 is about due for replacement and I am considering going to a Heidenau dual sport or enduro tyre as I want to do more dirt road and trail riding. I currently have a newish battleax B45 on the front.

My questions are,
-does anyone have experience with the Heidenau dual sport or enduro tyres?
-How would mixing a street tyre on the front and a dual sport tyre for a period of time go? Would this be unwise or dangerous?

I always mix tyres...but I'm not the one to ask if it's unwise or dangerous - I'm unwise and dangerous.

I've mixed different makes of street tires without noticing any problem at all in fact it's hard not to mix at some point unless you have plenty of money and want to throw away good tires.

No real idea about the combination you mention but I doubt it's seriously dangerous especially in the dry.  

It's all a matter of degree I suppose. If you are going to push a bike to the absolute limits then you'll need to be happy to always pay a premium for tires that are a matched pair both in type and age.  At a more modest rate of progress any differences will likely not be so apparent.

Then there's the argument that the best is always needed in reserve for that emergency situation.
