Title: This ones for Monte :-)
Post by: marcmax on April 30, 2014, 05:34:12 PM
One day, a very gentle Texas lady was driving across a high bridge in Austin.

As she neared the top of the bridge, she noticed a young man fixin’ to jump. ("fixin" in Texas means: has the means or abilities to take action)

She stopped her car, rolled down the window and said, "Please don't jump! Think of your dear mother and father."

He replied, "My mom and dad are both dead; I'm going to jump."

She said, "Well, think of your sweet wife and precious children."

He replied, "I'm not married, and I don't have any kids."

She said, "Well, then you just remember the Alamo."

He replied, ''What's the Alamo?''

She replied, ‘’Well, bless your heart! - You just go ahead and jump..you little Yankee Bastard.. You’re holding up traffic”

I know that very bridge in Austin over the Colorado River and Town Lake. Done been there often.

The South Congress Street bridge, where -during Springtime- thousands of Mexican free-tail bats launch every evening over a 30-45 minute span. An awesome sight that draws crowds each night. Just keep yall's mouth closed while looking up at 'em.

Yep. The Alamo is most sacred to Native Texans, myownself included.

Gonna keep that story, Marc.  [smiley=beer.gif]

That sounds just like Austin.  The guy going to jump, not the lady.  Hardly anyone currently residing in Austin began life there.

I think the slogon for the city says it all. "Keep Austin Weird"

Out of our family, only my granddaughter in a native Austinite.

My wife and I were just discussing today the true meaning of that oft-heard phrase, "Bless your heart..."

... and it fits right in with this story! ;D :D

I almost came a cropper when I berated a weirdo in Zilker park, I forgot folks carry guns round them parts.

You can always tell a true Texas woman because she can tell you to go to hell and make you look forward to the trip.  You're halfway there before you realize what happened.

Did they steal that from Portland?

Must be some cross-pollination going on.
