Title: 50 rounds of 9mm
Post by: montmil on March 29, 2013, 09:01:28 AM
Latest email offering from one of my usual gun store haunts -Cheaper Than Dirt, Ft Worth, Texas- offers me a 50-round box of PMC (pretty good ammo even if it is made in Korea) 115 grain JHP 9mm Luger for only $79.59.

This is the same ammo I have here at home that I last paid $14.99 for a 50 round box. [smiley=furious3.gif]

No. I'm not buying any. Just venting.

Holy price gouging, Batman.

That is insane.  I haven't bought 9mm in a number of years, but just the other month I bought a 50 round box of 230 grain .45acp ball for just a hair over $20.

P.S., I can load my own .45acp with cast bullets for a little over $10 a box.

Right now, even primers are all but unobtanium.

It is totally friggin ridiculous.   I haven't been to the target range cause I don't want to use the last of my ammo!   And, even though I reload for several calibers, I'm short on primers and haven't been able to find any locally within a 30 mile radius. @#$#%&!

Check Midway USA.  According to their site, the expect primers in April (date depends on brand and size).  They will send an email alert when they come in (but you may have to act fast when you get the email).

The downside is there is a Hazmat surcharge on the shipping.

I feel your pain, the .22 pellets we buy here have gone from £7.95 to £10!!
still it's good for taking down a pheasant or two.

I don't think i ever held a 'live' bullet, loads of shells, just never a bullet

has the price increased across the board, of ammunition, or just on certain guns??

Pretty much everything is mostly unobtainable, save for some of the more exotic stuff - such as 7mm Mag, Weatherby calibers, 458 Winchester - stuff that generally costs alot of money anyway - but once those are off the shelves, they won't get refilled quickly.   Anything that is "common", such as 9mm Luger, 223 Remington/5.56NATO, 308 winchester/7.62x54, or even 22LR gets sold out within minutes of it showing up at stores.  The ammunition companies are putting on 3rd shifts, and still can barely keep up, and people are paying ridiculous prices (up to +500% above "normal", from what I've observed) for boxes of ammo.

One of my local stores still had large rifle magnum primers, but that was all they had.   I think that until the gun control controversy calms down, one way or the other, it will continue to be crazy.    On the other hand, if more drastic restrictions are put in place, people will probably continue to buy ammunition like they are preparing for the apocalypse.

I don't like to mail order primers or powder because the hazmat fees generally double the price of my orders, but I may have to "bite the bullet" if I want to go shooting my revolvers or lever action rifles.

So is that gun control by the back door then ?. No shortages here just the other day i bought  25  20g Brass Shotgun Shells for reenactment and 100 large pistol primers, the primers were £5 the Shells were £12 however the price of factory loaded ammo has "shot" up here too.

Mike, I can't even find any of the primers I need on-line - all of the places I've found to check are out of stock...

Dammit! I had 500 rounds of 5.7x28mm SS190 for my Browning 57 in Mexico and I left it there for the guys that took over. Not much of a market for it tho'.

Now we just need a way to blame the ammo shortage on petrochemical profiteers.
Never thought I'd be meeting a guy under a street-lamp, to hand him a wad of cash and get a little brown bag of...380?

Nah.  A guy in Falls City told me that the government (guvment) is buying up all the ammo to keep it out of private hands.

Well, I had to go beyond my usual 25 mile radius to one of the larger shops in the whole state, and I was able to buy some primers at last!   They didn't have alot, and limited each customer to no more than 500 primers, so I bought my 500 and some other reloading supplies and thanked my lucky stars I can load ammo  for several more trips to the range.

They were all out of my "Standard" pistol powders: Unique, HS-6, W231, 2400, so to conserve what I have left of Unique and 2400 for hunting loads I bought their last pound of Green Dot, which I haven't used before.   Now to find some recipes to try with that for feeding my 38, 357, and 45Colt revolvers.

The store was an absolute mob-scene - I have never been there when it was so busy before, and the cashier told me it was actually calming down a little bit.    Absolutely no one had any 22LR in stock anywhere, and they were limiting customers to how many boxes of 9mm or 223/5.56 they could buy, but there were at least some ammo options on shelves for most every caliber (except 22LR).

Even the NFA desk was seeing alot of action - there were at least 6 customers being waited on there along with the dozens filling the rest of the store.

I took my CHL class yesterday and I asked the guy if the primers ever came in.  He said yes and they were all gone withing 20 minutes of hitting the shelf!

Still looking f9or Winchester Large Rifle - guess I'll just have to load some M1 bullets with Fed or CCI...
