Just received an email at work, the content, was a notification to all holders of US licensed aircraft mechanics, pilots and repairman's certificates .
On March 31, 2013, all holders of these licenses that have not yet replaced their paper licenses with a plastic copy, will not be able to exercise the privileges of that license .
So pretty much, if you don't replace your license by then and get caught afterwards, you're in violation of FAR Part 65.15 and can receive a violation on your license .

If ot wasn't for me needing to try and keep up with the REGs. As a normal floor mechanic I would more than likely not have know this. I found this on the FAA wibe site back in 2009 it was at that time for pilots. Then some time later it came out for A&P. I got after my guys that had the paper to get them changed. Who ever keeps up with the REGs at your work should have told every long before now even though you still have time.

The original notice is dated Nov. 27, 2012, but as usual it gets 'buried' in all of the notices we receive, usually around 150-200 a week .
This notice was sent via company email, so no excuse for not seeing it .
I had my license replaced with a plastic one in 2007, when an FAA inspector doing a ramp check, said that my paper license wasn't very legible and gave me a month to replace it .
He did follow up on it and asked to see my license about 6 weeks later . ::) ::) ::) ::)

I am going to post on other fourms about this also.

Got my new plastic Pilot License some time back. Ticked the block that said they could use my Texas Drivers License photo. Odd thing is I was wearing the same shirt in both the DMV photo and the one for my Concealed Handgun License.
I think the shirt had been washed in-between those photos. ::)
Last medical, the doc looked at my papers and then at me. "Still going with brown, are you?" OK, got me some gray up top. Time to pick up a case of Just For Men, I'm thinking.

Where do I go to get my paper A&P switched over? I don't use it anymore, but just in case...... :o

@professorfate
I believe you should be able to work this all out by mail. This is a great starting place:

Thanks for the reminder!
Went to FAA's website to take of things.....what a miserable mess of a website. I'm not even sure I got it done properly. I changed my mailing address, gave them my physical address, and opted to remove my SSN as my cert #. Then I tried to get a 'new format' replacement and it says that I have to wait 120 days, because I already got a replacement.
So.... ??? And how do they get their $2? take it out of my tax return? Add it to next years? Payroll deduction? COD? Or is some "I'm with the FAA and I'm here to help!" goober gonna show up on my doorstep?
:-?
