Platoon First Sergeant Zach Miller, currently encamped on Camp Phoenix -approx 7 klicks ENE of Kabul, sent this email to his ol' man this morning. It's a motorcycle tale...
"Had an interesting day on patrol...we were just returning to camp and making the left hand turn into our gate. The roads were wet from a light shower just minutes before.
Our vehicles are the massive MRAPs you see on TV so much. Way too big with very limited viewing outside. I was in the back right seat looking out the porthole window and I saw a motorcycle with two guys on it that obviously didn't see the 20 ton truck that had turned in front of them.
The driver locked it up and laid it down heading right for the trucks 4' tall tires. The truck barely jostled when it slammed into the tire. I jumped out expecting these guys to be roadkill but somehow they managed to push away from the bike so it slammed into the tire and they went sliding right behind the truck!
One had a twisted ankle and the other a road rash on his forearm. I had the doc patch em up, paid for their taxi to the hospital and away they went.
The bike is a Chinese crotch-rocket knock off, 125cc POS. I got it up, put a little choke on it and it started right up. A buddy of theirs showed up and drove it away, sans front brake lever and right side mirror. No helmets and sports jackets was all they had for protection."

No surprise there. Same idiots all over the world... I see guys in our North Texas village riding 100+HP sport bikes while wearing t-shirts, shorts, sandals and no helmet; self-selecting themselves right out of the gene pool. Hello, Darwin Award.

Tell the sergeant we're thinking of him and others like him daily. Good story. We'll due some 12 oz. curls when he's DEROS home again.

The lad did find time to call home this Mothers Day.
Pretty wife was thrilled even though the call was cut a little short by his LT's needs for Zach to go handle, "... some Soldiers getting into other people's business before this thing gets out of hand."
And here I was thinking it's this guy Al-Qaida causing all the ruckus. ;D

Good for Zach to help them out so much. Got to be terrifying over there. Give him my best please Monte.
