I am in the early stages off planning a road trip to the Southern States i to have decide how much time i can spend over there and still have a business to come back to, at the moment i am looking at something from Pheonix to Ft Worth via the high country and maybe a run down to Huston, I plan to avoid the places i have already been and make peace with the Natives.
As the plans develop i will keep you posted, Medical Insurance is the biggest stumbling block at the moment. I will update this thread as and when there are any concrete developments and check out the members map to try to put some faces to names should anyone want to meet up (where is that funeral parlor with the free coffee?).
Fact is if i dont do it soon it wont happen, i am hoping my Oncologist is going to clear me this summer which should resolve the insurance issue.......free at last .

We have a guest room and a spare motorcycle or two.
We could also raid Bengt Phorqs Shiner beer stash.
Keep us in the loop... [smiley=beer.gif]

Lou,
Sounds like a plan coming together... :D
Anything I can do to help with the planning? maybe discuss over a couple of beers sometime soon?

If you are coming through Ft. Worth you will be going right past the house so you better stop in for a brew or coffee...
-
If you streach your tour to Ms., feel free to stop over at Moon Lake. Plenty of beer and if on weekend we probably could find some good blues played close to my place.

Jumping into the hospitality sweepstakes! We're now in the Southwest Suburbs of Houston. Two motorcycles (R65 and Bonneville); two guest rooms; on a golf course...
Standing by to hear your final travel plans!

I guess I won't be seeing you. Northern California isn't anywhere near Phoenix or Houston. Sounds like you've got a good trip planned.
You'll be missing a whole bunch of wonderful "Western" culture by not coming to the San Francisco Bay Area. You know, the whole '49er thing happened here. There are towns in the Sierra foothills that still have the old buildings from the '49er era (that's 1849, of course ;) )
Have fun making your plans.

Lou, there's a good Cowboy Action Shooting group in the Houston area. One of the couples involved lives close to my sister there. Let me know if you are interested in hooking up with that group.

Yes there are a few between Houston and Dallas... i have been researching.

This one has an open day every month but i think it may be aimed at novice shooters
http://tejascaballeros.org/
I will be in touch when it comes together but in the mean time you could ask if they allow "guest" shooters ( i am fully licenced the UK...... no mean feat) as i dont think i will be able to bring my own arsenal.
Thanks Lou

Hi Lou - 40 miles North of Sacramento California - "Marysville" at the base of some of the best motorcycle roads the US has to offer - Have 6 kids in the house so not much to offer in the way of a spare bedroom but normally have plenty of food & normally have plenty of riding stock on hand - Lots of stuff to see in California - One of the finest Motrocycle States in the US - Mid West have a lot of straight roads - Texas can be extremily boring - On the west side of the state is the Napa way of life - can be interestion & fun but the east side of the state is where the great roads are - Roads like 49 - 3 - 36 - great stuff - tom

Well i was going to call it the Great Escape but some one nicked that one.....as it as been just short of 20 years since i last set foot in Texas the law of averages says i am unlikely to pass that way again, just me being practical dont read too much into it [smiley=wink.gif].

Justin, I felt the same way when I first read the thread title!!! With trepidation I clicked on it and was very relieved.
Gee, Lou, when do you think you might be comng...ballpark?? If I could get all the way to Sedalia, MO for the National MOA rally on July 22, I would be tempted to ride all the way to TX just to meet you...and Monte! With Bengt and Justin..well, a wee R65.org rally. Don't worry...I'd find a place for my tent somewhere and stay outta your hair with my beer! Just a-musin' here with plans and dreams.

Where would we be with out them !!!! sorting dates out is a bit like herding cats, as soon as i have got everything in place i will let you know i had hoped for Sept/Oct but thats slipping away.I greatly appreciate the offers of Hospitality, it looks at the moment like heading to Houston/Orange area for few days then heading West to Pheonix then North to "wherever"(found a nice Ranch and cattle drive) eventually flying back Houston via Dallas.

Wouldn't that be a hoot. We can get Scotty up from Marble Falls on his new hack and a few of the other Texicans. I'm sure we could find accomodations for the whole motley crew.

Sue's got beer! First dibs on her bunkin' in Denton at Monte's Bed & Brew.
-
Are you going to be on two-wheels?
If you roll through Tucson, let me know. We can go have a beer at a local micro-brewery and I can show you some of the good riding!

I will be renting a Cage... i understand the Old town in Tuscon is worth a visit i may get that far south but it will depend on the time of year, i do plan to spend some time riding in the White Mountains but that will be the 4 legged variety.
Micro Brewery sounds like a good plan on a hot day.....Taxi take me to your brewer...

Too bad you don't have enough time to get out to TN/NC and ride the Dragon! It is a blast!!! ;D
-
Not just the Dragon but all of North Georgia and Western North Carolina. Iron Horse Motorcycle lodge is paradise for motorcycle campers....
