It'll be a tough match but when the smoke clears off the pitch, I think the Brits will prevail.

Now if the University of Texas Longhorns quarterback Colt McCoy could throw a couple long passes...  8-)

Well, I'll be happy if the American side can advance out of the first stage and avoid a disaster like we had back in '06!  (Boy, THAT World Cup was ugly for us Yanks!)   ::)

Great team Lou and an inspired choice of manager. I didn't realise there was so many of us.

The Americans will have more choice on the bench though.

Thank you

I have just one question: Are we talking American football or soccer? A thought! Rugby to bring our Aussies and Kiwies in.

I just picked up on this thread.  Haven't seen anyone draft a USA team, so I'll kick it off (pun intended!).

Goal Keeper - Monte (because if he can hang on to the ball like he can hang onto a buck then nothing will get past him)

Right Side Full back - Semper Gumby volunteered for that one and even though he rides a Brit bike now and again, he's  an all American boy.

Left Side Full Back - Justin B - he's good at heading off the end runs and deflecting the ball

That's all I have for now.  Anyone else have any suggestions?

Soccer!! soccer is played only in America.....a girls game i believe.
Football (not Aussie rules rugby or the NFL) the beautiful game.I believe the Aussies used to play it.

All is not lost Mike Grella (NY) scored two cracking goals last night for Leeds United setting up a 2nd of January encounter with the old enemy Manchester United one to watch, that lad is impresive.

I vote for Aïda for right striker if that is what RS stands for. Nobody would notice Aïda..she could sneak in and hide in the shadows of some defender and then sprint ahead and score with any luck avoiding an offside.

Our goalkeeper, if I may be so presumptuous being Canadian, I vote for me who knows how to avoid a speeding bullet. Just kidding!! A wee ball should be no problemo!
I want Nhmaf as my defender. He's got the size and the smarts and he plays saxophone to throw you Brits off your game.
I am thinkin of the rest.....going to dinner now.

Duh!! Avoiding a speeding ball is not the idea. Standing in front of a speeding ball and stopping it is!!! [smiley=embarassed.gif] [smiley=embarassed.gif] Opening for our North American side keeper!!

SO I was hungry! And temporarily demented!!

There is a bit of female logic there....... you could break a nail stopping the ball!!!

Well, a 1-1 draw was not what either side wanted, but I guess  it's better than a loss.  The U.S. really got a "gift" from England in the form of a goal in which the goalkeeper initially "stopped" the U.S. shot, but the ball got out of his hands somehow and rolled slowly across the goal line!  Wow!!   :o  I never thought I'd see something like that happen during the World Cup!

Me and my mouth... i was watching it on ITV HD for some reason an African Advert came up and when normal service was resumed we had scored......at half time they appologised then put a link up to Camp Bastion Afghanistan where a load off troops US/UK were watching together it showed thier reactions to the goals....oh boy the Taliban are going to get a Kicking tomorrow good job the boys wernt armed in the mess.

ps i dont want to try and explain the off side rule but did you guys pay off the Brazillians???

I can't believe the England goalie's mistake!  He must feel the fool! Just goes to show us that anyone can make a big boo boo. Body not fully behind the ball to block it, open and down hands to allow the ball to roll up his arms etc. I remember doing just such a dumb move as a goalie in broomball. Went to roll the ball out from the goalie net crease to a player and on the backward swing the ball slips out of my glove back into the net! Slow motion crawl to try to stop it! To no avail!
Thank goodness it ended in a tie at least. Can you imagine his feelings if they had lost! Anyone know if Joe Cole got on the English team?? He's my favourite. Started in W. Ham I think like Green, the England goalie.  Now with Chelsea.

Im sure he would have stopped it...
Sue ...respect for you knowledge of the game yes Joe is in the team and i would put money on him starting the next game as Carragher was a waste of space i can run quicker than him with my dodgy knee, would you please explain the offside rule to the linesmen of that game total muppetry.

Can't wait till the next game if Joe will play!!! I have to say that I am quite amazed that the offside rule can ever be accurately enforced as it sometimes seems so hard to ascertain. Lou check me out on this...I'll try to explain what I understand to be the rule: An offside is called, I think, when the player receiving the ball is closer to the goal than all the defending players at the very moment the ball is kicked to him. If the ball is kicked to him and he THEN runs ahead of the defending players to get it, that is a fair situation. I guess that is what the referees are there for but I'm glad no one is asking me to see all of this on such a huge field!!

I watched the entire match.

A questionable defensive plan, along with the lonely Aussie striker being constantly surrounded by German defenders, did in the Australian team. I was pulling for the thunder from down under. :-/

Thats more or less accurate but it has become confused by the new rule that if a player isnt interfering with play he is not off side.... in the good old days if you were behind the defence you were off side everyone got that.
hey ho in the words of the immortal Bill Shankly if a player is on the pitch he is interfering with play..

SCJJR65 this has nothing to do with footie but if a recall my little knowledge of German right, it should be "Los, wir wollen fahren". Incidentally the German for full speed is I think "in voller fahrt" which a friend once translated as "in full fart". We get the picture!

Lou, I have to watch it and we had better win tomorrow after all the trouble I've gone to.  I've been lashing up a temporary satellite TV installation and LCD projector so the whole school can watch the match in our sports hall on a big screen. Should be good with a 100w power amp and big speakers for added atmosphere.  Crowd control could be problem though.

Hey Lou!! Joe Cole played and didn't cause any grief or worry. Didn't set the house on fire but good at killing time in extra minutes!! Whew. Poor Wayne Rooney, he'll get some goals yet but I can see he must be seething. I don't think this team will last much longer but I am super ready to be surprised!!!!

Good on the USA!!! Another whew and yay!!

I found it really noticeable how few times players on either side in the England match were laying on the pitch moaning and groaning and looking about to see if they can catch the ref's eye. I do not think much of this seemingly Latino based, romantique language, whinging and whining. Aren't they a little bit embarrassed to behave like that??? Not a very good example for the young players. IMHO.

We can just cry into each other's beer. England and the USA...so now who do I cheer for. Netherlands??? Brazil, Portugal?

It hard to believe that Diego Maradona ever played so well. He looks positively like a young Quasimoto! But the 'hand of god and golden goal" were no flukes...he was good with his hand and foot then I guess. Good with mouth now. Ya gotta like him.

England and the USA are both long gone, R.I.P., so now we're down to the finals of this august competition.  Who do you like to take the Copa Mondial tomorrow?  The octopus takes Spain, but I've never been one to trust a critter with more than 2 arms.

What ever happens therell be a new name on the cup........i have to support the Dutch as Amsterdam is (was) my second home itll be a hell of a party in Dam Square if they win.
I found the Spanish tactics in the fist half of the match against Gemany to be like watching paint dry.

It's good for the sport to see two teams competing who have not won the title before.  I think Spain plays better as a team, but I believe The Netherlands has the emotional edge, since they have been so close a couple of times in the past but have just not been able to win it.

Regardless of who wins, it should be a good match, and has been a very enjoyable World Cup to watch, even if the US team did not go quite as far as I had hoped they would!    ;)

Spain wins 1-nil in second overtime! [smiley=clap.gif]

A rough game from both sides. Spain was marked as a potential dark horse winner before the matches even began. A new and ninth name goes on the Mundo cup. Pretty cool.

And Troy Corser crashed off his WSB R100 during Friday practice. Did not race on Sunday at Brno. Reuben Zaus had a good run in Race One -fifth place- but retired out of Race Two.

Hey, Lou... I know this may be a little off track of this thread, but being British and a football fan, you may know about this.  Ever listen to Pink Floyd?  On an album they recorded back in the early '70s entitled "Meddle", they had a track on it called "Fearless", and at the end you can hear fans in a stadium singing (what I believe) is the official team song for Liverpool, "You'll Never Walk Alone".

Just thought I'd toss that in.  I have a lot of spare time on my hands these days.....  ::)

i also have a video called Chrystal Voyager about deep sea surfing ,it used medddle as its sound track some of the tunnel shots on it are brilliant.
