Title: She Just Dont Get It
Post by: Lucky_Lou on July 18, 2010, 04:54:10 AM
After an enjoyable meal my wife and i were enjoying a glass of some fine red stuff, somehow the conversation steered towards "Gertie".
My wife was wondering why i had taken the bike to bits !!! so i explained that i had the opportunity to do some essential maintenance while sorting the wheel bearings ..........her response "Why don t you buy a new one" then you wont have to worry about repairing it..............bless her how could i explain.
I Just hope Gertie didn't hear her.

She did say, "Why don't you buy a new one...".

I heard no mention of her suggesting you sell Gertie.  [smiley=evil.gif]

Good point Monte.  Was it something along those lines that allowed you to acquire the Mexican bike?  Nah, probably not.  I've met your wife and it's pretty obvious who has the brains in the family (much like in my household!)

Lou, take her up on the deal.  Probably best though to not say anything like "Honey, you have a few miles on you also, but I wouldn't think about trading you in on a new one."

"we BOTH have a few miles under OUR belts" is probably a better approach. You aren't going to any scrap yard and replacing the SO isn't in the plans at all either!!! Just watching out for y'all!! Let the wine flow!!

Thats a good point Monte but i know if i turn up on a new bike (ive got my eye on a 1980 r100 ,that would count as a new one to me) there will be something big and expensive in the pipeline the missus has yet to tell me about.
Having been married for 33 years ive learned this the hard way.

Actually, truth be told, the good doctor said, "If we had two R65s, I could ride with you." Ka-ching! The Mexico Bike came home a couple weeks later.

Convinced her she should at least begin with something a bit more simple before running off on the BMW so we bought her a shiny, new Chinese 50cc CVT scooter. She has ridden it one time in the nearly two years we've had it. One Time. I use it to make the twice-weekly three block run to Ace Hardware. Fuel mileage? It came with a full fuel tank; a bit more than one gallon. I have added a gallon since then. [smiley=laugh.gif]

Same story, different ending (so far)!  Weekend before last I was "musing" on some of the fixes Schatzie needed (another one or two after every ride, actually) and Patsy made the same suggestion. In the truest sense of "carping the diem" I took delivery of a new 2009 Bonneville last Monday. Patsy earnestly believes that a sale of the R65 is imminent (or at least likely).

Gosh, Burt. Don't you know that this is a terrible time of the year to try to sell any motorcycle. Too danged HOT! Better wait awhile.

Fall is a possibility. However, anyone who'd buy an airhead BMW in the fall would likely just park it and then take it to bits over the winter. That would be a sin and a waste. Nah. Not a good time either.

And no one wants to ride during our usual wet and cold Texas winters.

Spring? Fugitaboudit. By then, Patsy will, too.

Best keep it. I'm always glad to help. Got your six.    Monte

You are talking about a Triumph, right?  Because Pontiac quit making the land yachts a few years ago.  Listen to Monte, obviously he's a pro at this.

Bengt Phorqs, Pontiac stopped making cages about 4-5 years ago, just in case you didn't hear about it !!!! ::)

Congrats on the new bike Burt .

No need to get rid of the R65, you need multiple bikes, to suit the frame of mind you are, keeps you sane !!!! [smiley=ROTFLMAO.gif]

The R65 stays, if "our ship comes in"-- but it seems to have been lost at sea since the 90's.  Patsy has been amused by this thread, however-- at least she bared her teeth and made a recurrent guttural sound, which I interpreted as a grin and a chuckle. SueCanada, I got the 'base model', so I have the blacked-out engine and no tach (which can be added as a complete Triumph kit for $349). Bengt, here are "stock photos" (hey, they pay their photographers the big bucks)... I've already installed a new MCE rack with my old (repainted) trunk on mine, so I'll have to take some photos this weekend (after I get the windshield installed).

If 'ol Burt bought the Bonny where I think he did, the dealership -Triumph, Ducati and BMW- is within spittin' distance of his front door.

BTW, Burt... tell Patsy that someone is using my name with these recent posts hereabouts. ::)

Nope... Based on input from a former Triumph-riding coworker, I bought the Bonnie from RPM in Dallas (had to travel nearly 20 miles to make it happen)! They're a Triumph/Guzzi/KTM dealer, and I like their style-- like a loaner bike when you have to drop the bike off for service. And getting me a lower finance rate than promised.

I've been over to RPM a few times.  Haven't bought from them yet, but it's good to know there is another Guzzi dealer in town.  It's a nice shop too.  Hope they can make it in this crummy economy.

I had actually thought a lot about a Guzzi 750, but both the price and the cost of service (at my request, RPM provided a list of standard charges for the first half-dozen service visits for both) helped make my decision... Plus I got a 2009, which was worth an additional discount. Now the KTM's would make a great second bike, for those who are well-heeled or don't already have a Tiger Cub or 441 Victor in the garage...

Good-lookin' Goose... Have you owned/ridden cruisers, Lou?  I had one two years ago, and had a hard time adapting to the riding position.
