Title: Banks !!!!!!!!!!
Post by: Bob_Roller on September 14, 2009, 03:22:24 PM
Got a letter in the mail Saturday, it was from the bank that I have all of my accounts with (J.P. Morgan/Chase/Bank One, what ever they are now !!!!), there was a check for $2916, the accompanying letter stated that the check was for interest on a CD that had matured, and was closed on 10/07/07 .

I went to the local branch of the bank that is about half mile from the house today, talked to the manager, and he could not explain what had happened, and if it were him, he wouldn't cash the check until the bank did a research of the account .

I called the toll free number on the letter, and got an 'offshore' call center, after a 5 minute conversation that I had to ask the other person to repeat themselves at least 25 times, I told her to call me back when they find an answer as to what happened .

I received a call about an hour later, and the department that handles all CD transactions could not find any reason why this happened, and why it took 23 months to finally rectify the situation .

Looks like I need to find a local bank to do business with from now on .

I banked happily with Chase for many years, but the only CDs I have play music.

Last spring, for some inexplicable reason, I changed to Indiana Members Credit Union.
Mostly hoping to snatch up one of their 1-owner, low-mileage Honda Civics from their lease pool.

There was also my general mistrust of banks that has grown over the last 9 months...
But I always felt pretty good about Chase, for some reason.

Sorry for your frustration at getting this resolved.  I hope you get to talk to North America, soon.

I started banking with Bank One, when I moved to Phoenix in October, 1993 .

Didn't have any problems, until J.P. Morgan  acquired, or merged with Bank One/Chase, that's when the problems started, and was one on the main reasons, I went paperless in 2007 with my banking statements .

There are two Robert Rollers with J. P. Morgan in my area, the middle initials are different, but the other Robert Roller, kept getting all of the mailings that were meant for me, couple that with the incredibly horrible US Postal Service mail service, that I have had in the 15 years since I moved to current address, I don't get any more 'sensitive' paperwork in the mail than I have to these days .

I like credit unions.  I know, I know, socialism.  So what?

I'm all for the banking & credit reforms due to come over the coming months.    I have several credit cards - all of which were from different banks originally, but now all seem to be owned by Citibank/Chase now.
One card is particularly nasty -    They will "mail" the bill to me, with a payment due date of less than 3 weeks from their claimed mailing date. For some inexplicable reason, it takes them several days to get the mail out of their own damn business, so by the time the post office gets it to me, I typically have 2 weeks or less to get the bill payment back to them.   If I am gone on vacation for a few days, forget about getting payment back to them in time.   Of course, if they don't have my check in their system by the due date, they slam me with a $50 late fee, and charge me finance charges on everything for several months following this.     I've called to complain, but none of their "changes" have netted any improvement - they may chance the billing generation date & due date, but the net time in between never gets any longer.   I'd cancel the card outright but I've already cancelled some other cards and if I cancel too many at once my credit rating will drop.    They've all lowered my credit limits even though I pay off the entire balances in full every month, so that has lowered my credit rating anyway, which used to be close to 800.

This is what happens when we let a bunch of lawyers and MBAs run the majority of our country's economy pushing paper around.   Sad.  I've always had the best service with small banks and credit unions - still belong to a credit union for railroad employees even though I haven't worked for the railroad in over 24 years.

That's why I've gone 'paperless' for statements, and pay all my bills online .

Its not just Banks that are doing there best to shaft us i cancelled my AoHell account only to find they've been sticking me with a separate 2.99 a month on my business card for security suite?? they say they cannot cancel it because its Mcafee yet the bill goes to AOL?? even though i have no recollection of ever ordering it the bank says they can block it but they may come after me for it?? Mcafee say its not them but its AOL I'm sick of sending emails and endless phone calls to people pretending to be English speakers.
I note a law suite in the states for $750000 against Mcafee for over billing hope they dont go bust before i get my money back.

Credit cards are the Devil's work.  I'll never have another.

I have one credit card, the issuing bank is Citibank, had it since March, 1983, if they start playing games, I'll kick them to the curb, like any other business that I hate doing business with .

They seem to have forgotten the first rule of business, the customer doesn't need you, you need the customer !!!

They need to be reminded of this in a big way !!!

I have a Citi card that I use for nearly all my purchases, then pay it off every month.  They really should cancel me, as they don't make any interest and pay me back 5% cash for gas, groceries, and pharmacies, and 1% for everything else.  It comes to over a hundred dollars a year, I think.

They must really be hosing my retailers.

You are what the banks now call a "dead beat". Use to mean you didn't pay what you owed. In today's, greed rules, business atmosphere if you don't trigger any of the obscene fees or add on charges by carrying a balance or being late the lenders view you in the negative. All for being responsible.
Bob, I'd take a hard look before I chose a new bank. Many "local" banks and credit unions are also failing with more predicted to come.

WE will want to see new pics of your shiny new motorcycle !

Credit/loans are a necessary (evil) part of life these days - there are exceedingly few who couild afford to buy a house for their family and pay it all up front in cash.  And, without sufficient credit history, no bank will loan you any money!     It is a careful balance that can be easily upset by poor personal financial choices or bad luck: .ie. losing job, etc.

I had a devil of a time trying to get a loan for my first home, back in May of 1994 .

I hadn't made a monthly car payment since July, 1982, and the only credit card I had, was used at best 6 or 7 times a year, usually only when I was on vacation, or if I needed parts/accessories for the R65 .

So I got into the habit of using the credit card for everything .
