Title: GMs new two wheeler
Post by: drewboid on April 07, 2009, 08:21:52 AM
Saw this in the news this morning - this is supposed to get GM out of bankruptcy? Perhaps the worst idea since the Edsel.
Since it has two wheels will it require a motorcycle license?

I like the comment about full autonomous control by GPS navigation.

" It would avoid obstacles like pedestrians and other vehicles, and never crash".

As long as there is more than one vehicle on the road, collisions will happen.

I could see these as being very useful in dense downtown areas like New York City - just thinking of the increase in parking spaces!

IF someone was smart, they might try to start something like providing parking centers just outside city centers where one could leave one's auto (if driving from far outside the city) and for a nominal fee "rent" one of these to squirt around in town on, with recharging stations and preferred parking arrangements.    It makes more sense in reducing inner city congestion than the Segway gizmo (which is built in our state about 45 minute's drive away from here).

Rich, just think of it as an electric motorcycle with the wheels oriented in the wrong plane! :D

 ::)  I don't think so!

I sure can't see me getting one of those things.  Why don't they take that idea and put 3 wheels on it and make it more of a motorcycle kind of thing that is really cool looking and people will actually want.

Looks very much like a solution desperately searching for a problem.

Looks like something a committee of pols and enviro-wackos designed.  Could this be the fruit of the unholy union between the government and GM?  I don't see any storage room at all so it would be useless for a quick trip to the store.

Hopefully this thing will die once GM files bankruptcy...

It looks suitable for use in a park but I don't see anyone who has driven in Manhattan or Chicago actually venturing out into the street in one.
