Does anybody understand Obama's Cap and Trade proposal. I heard, this morning, that it will decide what kind of car you can drive, how many cars (motorcycles?) you can own and how far from work you will be allowed to live.
Is there anybody out there that understands this?

I don't think that the plan has solidified enough to be able to get much real info to analyze yet. But, it would seem to me that they would basically end up adding a "carbon tax" if you will, on each gallon of gasoline or diesel or other fuel sold. Then based purely on how many gallons of fuel you used as a consumer, you'd end up paying the tax according to how much you emit. I don't think that I am thrilled about the idea - rising prices with declining income and employment is a sure sign of disaster. I do know and understand that we all need to do more to help the environment, but I don't think that if we bankrupt the entire country in the process that we'll have accomplished much for future generations. We'll probably all have to get used to the fact that places like Florida will be under water in the next few centuries... that's why I stayed on the "high ground" ;)

A Tax based on usage? Don't I already pay that when I'm charged taxes on each gallon of gas I buy? Wasn't there also some sort of "Gas Guzzler" Tax put in place back in the 80's on vehicles that were under a certain MPG rating? It all sounds like the same thing to me with a new name. Nothing new to see here, move along.

If sea level would rise 500 feet I would have beach side property. To the east, of all things! Good thing I have a kayak.
