:o
My bike came (to me) with a Krauser rack. It is inhibiting me opening the seat, and when doing so, it scratchs up the tail piece on the seat. I was told the official BMW and Reynolds racks fit the R65. Anyone have some good photos?
tks

I have a Reynolds for a dual-shock R100RT, I think the ones for the R65 are built the same as in the platform of the rack is mounted to pivots/hinged joints and can be tilted and rotated to the rear so the seat cowl clears. I think Rob has one on his bike so maybe he'll up some pics...

Here's some pics (I hope) of the Reynolds rack I think you're referring to.
This one sold on Ebay recently for $51, not bad, but the seller also charged another 30 bucks to ship it.

Oops, sorry, didn't mean to post the whole listing.
My copy & paste skills are somewhat lacking.....

Or this:

Notice in the photo the saddlebag loops. These were a Reynolds item. Other saddlebag loops will require some modification for clearances. The Reynolds loops are not easy to find, either.

Does anybody know if the Reynolds Pattern rack is still in production by somebody somewhere.....anywhere...?
My R65 rack sits way too far back in order to clear the Tail housing.....Sometimes feel like I could do with some "Long Vehicle" warning stickers !!!

Rob,
how does this attach to the seat to let it open? Is it separate from the side? The catalog link you posted looks like it won't let you open the seat at all.
thanks
Steve

The rack articulates. First you pull the rear upwards, then you pull it back. It is simple and sturdy, but heavy*. After 25 years it is still tight.
It is too bad they are out of business.
I cannot believe the one on eBay went for ONLY $50!! I wrote the winner and offered to trade him my chrome one for his black one! [smiley=tongue.gif]
*probably why the shipping on the eBay one was so much!

Hi Rob.
I was wondering how you got your Reynolds to fit with the BMW bags mounts that are on your bike? The instructions say that they don't!

Rob, here's another one that just sold last week, it's the link to the single pic I posted above, with the "deflated"-looking back pad.

This one went for $87, but then only 15 bucks for s&h to NC from AZ. I know I sent an R65 gas tank via Fedex to Texas a few weeks ago for $10.10 plus the cost of a new box, so I thought $30 on the other rack was a bit severe.

Right now . Dec. 9th, 2006 there are two R 65 racks for sale on E bay.one of them give the part # on it
-
Thanks, Scotty, but the one looks very 'wrong', and the other is a little too rough. (I can be picky because I already have a good one mounted on my bike...)
I do, however, like the yellow! sport seat!

But I won't be bidding on it.
-
Yeah Rob, I'm the bidder on the model 265, even though it's kinda rough and isn't the model 268 that really fits my bike.
The other rack looks good, but kinda pricey and the seller says it's a fixed position model, plus I emailed about the front attachment points and he says they've been cut thru to allow
adjustability".
Don't know about that..... :o

I have one of the articulated ones for an R100, wonder how much work it would take to make it fit an R65? I may try to find it and sit it on the '82 and see. If it was just a matter of lopping off an inch and re-drilling the front mounting holes...
-
If you try it and it works, I'd be happy to take it off your hands ;D

Hmm. I was planning on bidding on that as well since it will go well with my 1980. :-/
-
Hey Steve, bid away: don't let my bidding stop you! ;)
I sent you a pm, by the way...
ps: Now i'm sending you another message.
-
I remember a thread on Boxerworks where everyone offered up their eBay handle so we would NOT get into a bidding war with our online friends.
Decent folks, these airhead riders.
-
Rob, that's actually a great idea, either that or the converse: everyone for themselves with no hard feelings! >:(
Time for another poll??
I know there are a few regulars on Ebay that I try not to bid against, such as Justin, because we've done business in the past and it just "feels" wrong.
-
VA Steve, is that you that's winning the auction for the Reynolds #265 rack/backrest combo on eBay?
Somebody passed me, which is A-OK as discussed above, I'm just curious.
If it's you, good luck!!

Nope, I'm going to snipe it. :D
