The sad thing is...I gave my wife a gym membership.... for Christmas a couple of years ago. You live, you learn. C'est la vie.  :'(

A simple rule is to never give anything with a cord to plug in or a handle to operate and never ever give something that has both or your sunk for sure! That link was hilarious!

I have found (maybe I'm deluding myself or the wife's extremely tolerant) that labor-saving appliances seem to be acceptable.  I firmly believe that no gift should be given that could be easily converted into a weapon...

The whole thing comes down to communication.  Each woman is different.  I myself like tools (for the R65, doncha know   ;)  ) or books on riding or anything for the R65.  I'm not one into jewelry much.  But then, I'm different.

But a vaccuum cleaner?   >:(  That comes under household necessities, not a gift!  You know what I mean?   ;D

Yeah, there is a difference between tools for a hobby and tools for housework.  8-)

Hmm - it then begs the question: what if your hobby is housework?  ::)

Hmmm.  Now that's tougher.  It comes down to communication again, or  rather "listening".   But I think a really cool outfit to wear to the gym as long as it doesn't say "Hey, you should loose that extra flab."  Gads, we know that already more than you can even imagine.   :(   Even if we don't have any extra flab.   ;D

I've probably said too much already.   :-X

Holy moly!

Well, that's something else.  But I don't know many women who see housework as a hobby.  Well, at least not those that have a life, those that work, and particularly those that ride motorcycles!   ;D

Oi! I did listen - very carefully as it happens - and over a long period of time. However, I think what my wife was saying was: 'Tell me I'm OK' (which before anyone says anything - I did - repeatedly). I THINK (therefore I am?) I really just need to learn the basics of 'woman speak' because it sure beats the heck out of me at times. :-?

Yeah, Mars & Venus.  You are right Monty.

The listening thing?  Sometimes you have to listen with your heart as well as your ears.   At least I think that's what it is.   :-?
