Title: Christmas?  Only 3 weekends to get ready!
Post by: Melena on December 03, 2008, 11:20:01 PM
It seems that traffic here on the forum has slowed down a bit.  Are you all out there trying to get ready for Christmas like I am?  Gheez Louise, there are only 3 weekends left!   :o

I've decided to make most all of the Christmas gifts I'm giving this year and the time is creeping up on me awfully fast!  I may be trying to catch up with the forum in about 4 weeks when I have time to get back here.   So, if you don't see me here for the next few weeks, I'm just trying to get too much done in too little time.   ::)

The weather has finally decided to turn cooler.  But we still haven't had much rain, and there is none forecast for the near future.  But we're having lots of fog that sticks around all day.  Not all that cold, but it barely got into the 60's today.  No frosts yet.  It doesn't seem like winter, so how can Christmas be only 3 1/2 weeks away?

I hope you all are more prepared than I am for the coming season.

Hi Melena,

Xmas is a hard time, especially for the poultry  :'(

In the coming weekend I am going to bake our xmas-cookies and make our xmas-sweets, which is quite early. The reason for this is that our eldest daughter who is expecting our first grandchild around December 21st and  her husband won't be home for  xmas and must have something to eat.

greetings from a clear, calm and freezing north

I already started preparing both bikes for a trip to the Johannesburg  area during the Christmas period - hav'nt decided  yet which bike will be used for the trip. We will visit our doughter and son in law - can't wat to see the little one again !

My wife will travel in advance by bus - she complained a bit about "not enough space for luggage on the bike" - so I am really looking forward to another solo trip on a bike. It is obviously summertime in our part of the world - and a wonderful opportunity for another long  bike trip !

Don't worry - I have no intention of pesturing everyone with another boring trip report !  ::)  The route will be the same as before anyway.   ::)

Seasons greetings

Ah, the season of... Well, our six g-kids are getting , in order from youngest up, 2 stuffed critters. Three home made blankets, and the oldest (10) is getting the first dollhouse I have ever built. What a pain... Web cam and seal-a-meal for our girl and long time boyfriend, computer for son.
Then the fun stuff. My wife loves to make holiday baskets for friends and family. 24 total this year. We have done; 42 dozen cookies, 9 gallons of bbq sauce, 5 pounds of jam from our black rasberry bushes, 7 pounds of trail mix and 3 pounds of salsa mix. All homemade. Everything from scratch. Oh, and 14 pair of handmade earings from the Indian Days festival.

My ideal for preparing for Christmas came from a local radio announcer years ago. He advocated leaving work at the normal time on 24 December, having about three quick ones at the local pub (the Aussies in the 1960s called this the "Six O'clock Swill"), than going shopping.  ;D ;D ;D

Ah yes - the ol' Six o'clock swill.....fortunately I never had to contend with this as it was terminated by our very enlightened Premier Don Dunstan (for our US counterparts read Governor) back on Sept 28, 1967 (only 7 at this time :)). Don himself was an interesting character - Australia's first - and as far as I know - only - bi-sexual Premier. Made Aussie news for a number of reasons - one of which was to enter Parliament wearing hot pink shorts and another to champion the cause of Aboriginal Land Rights. A true revolutionary and visionary - whatever-side of politics you belonged. The link below did not actually originate from him - but it is interesting none-the-less (he died in 1999).

But - back to the original thread...Unfortunately I don't have a lot of presents to really worry about. But I (and my dog) will be going up to my Aunt and Uncle's for Christmas Day and I am certainly blessed to have them. (And 'Yes', I really need to do the shopping for them!)
