Well here I sit and I'm getting very depressed.....Listening to the Second Cricket Test and Aust is not doing well against India. :'( Sorry - this is really for Australians, English, South Africans, Pakistanies and NZ...) And the commentator just swore.... ;D

But to loose to one of the wisest and most peaceful of peoples should let you bask in humility! :)

Well Rob it's ended and I'm-a-basking... :(
But there is always the Third Test [smiley=evil.gif]

Not to worry, I am sure it won't belong before you can come back to Blighty and give the Pom's a whipping.

Hey, don't be glum ! Our Boston Red Sox baseball team lost in a rather painful way to those upstart Tampa Bay Rays from Florida, so no chance
for another championship for our team, either. At least there is still some hope (rather slim, it appears) for our american football team, the New England Patriots.
I think that some folks need some more sports teams to cheer for, otherwise they become too fixated on only one sport/team/championship ! ;)

The gap between the 'haves' and 'have nots' certainly seems at its widest in places like India.
Many of my Colleagues come from India, but I doubt if any of them started life picking over the refuse on a fly blown tip, in 100 degree heat.
Having said that, sometimes I think some of the 'no-hopers' we have in the UK, unemployable and sponging off the state, should go visit India - it would certainly motivate them better. Work or die...
Dangerously close to putting my foot in it.
Either way, "Its Just not Cricket, what?"

Thanks nhmaf for trying to cheer me up, but the trouble is - this sport is important.... ;) (Only joking)

From Rob Valdez: << But to loose to one of the wisest and most peaceful of peoples should let you bask in humility! >>
If I interpret the lower photo of the BBC link correctly, I would suggest that these definitely are not "the most peaceful of peoples." ;D ;D What are they doing, kick-boxing? BTW, I thought it was a different culture that is big into KB.
Aussie, you aren't alone in your grief at this time of year. In the US we have a syndicated newspaper comic strip, "Tank McNamara," that is a very astute (and funny) commentator on the absurdity of American sports. Tank is currently on an imaginary riff about thousands of Chicago Cubs baseball fans, in zombie-like shock and disbelief over the Cubs being blown out in the first round of the playoffs, mindlessly buying World Series tickets under the delusion that their beloved Cubbies are in the Series. Background: the Cubs haven't won the Series in about 100 years, and have repeatedly tortured their fans by getting close and then collapsing. No Smilies here, out of sympathy for any Cubs fans among us. I'm Red Sox fans feel the same way; until recently there was a "Red Sox Curse" dating back to about 1918.

My remark was a bit tongue-in-cheek, if it wasn't obvious.
How serene could a cricket match be, anyway?
-
Anyway back to cricket.
A game played by gentlemen of a fair minded demeanor. Stout, upright chaps, with stiff upper lips, good breeding and posh accents.
Unless you are fixing the game for some illegal betting......
Money talks.

What is the relevence of red socks any way? In the UK they are worn by 'The Ramblers'. A shockingly powerful gang of retired thugs that stomp around the countryside claiming all for themselves!

And yet folks there's more....the 3rd Test has not begun well for the Australians. I'm having a bit of a premonition that even the bloody Poms may be able to beat us... ;)
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh - the ignominy....

Ah well - it's only a game .... [smiley=shoot.gif]

The Colts beat the Patriots last night!
But the press was less than impressed....

This just in...
Obama beats Bush!
-
Ummmmm - just getting back to the original thread...... >:(
Guess Aust was just outplayed .... :'( (I'm really thinking though it was the English bowling coach we employed who was sodding useless - I think he had made a bet on the Indians to win!)
Oh well - there's always the Poms to beat [smiley=idea2.gif] ;D
Time for a bit of a cry.
