Title: Gettin' hot - humorous musings...
Post by: Justin B. on July 31, 2008, 08:07:50 AM
Well, time for som hot weather jokes since 105 and 106 degree temps are advertised for this weekend.  I realize that this would be a cold front coming through for you AZ folks...  :P

YOU KNOW YOU ARE IN TEXAS IN JULY WHEN...

The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.

The trees are whistling for the dogs.

The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.

Hot water now comes out of both taps.

You can make sun tea instantly.

You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron!

The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly.

You discover that in July it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.

You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.

You actually burn your hand opening the car door.

You break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m.

Your biggest motorcycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up
lying on the pavement and cook to death?"

You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.

The potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add  butter, salt and pepper.

Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying  boiled eggs.

The cows are giving evaporated milk.

Ah, what a place to call home - God Bless Our State of TEXAS

 ;D

I 'bout froze this morning on the way to work.  I should have added the liner (or a sweat shirt) to my jacket and used warmer gloves.  Low to mid 40s I guess, I didn't look.  That's chilly on a naked Bonneville.  High 70s in the afternoon though.  It feels like fall, but I like it.

I just hope it's not really fall.

No chance of fall around here any time soon !!!

It's 107 F. (42 C.) at 13:00, forecast high for Phoenix is 113 F. (45 C.) today and tomorrow.

And seriously the comment on road surface temperature, is to be taken quite serious in hot weather, fresh asphalt can have a surface temperature exceeding 150 F. (66 C.), ( I've checked a few times around work with a non-contact infared thermometer, and have seen temps around 185 F. (85 C.) on fresh asphalt).

And temps of 155 F. ( 68 C.) on concrete, so wear the proper gear if you are riding in these higher temperatures.

So true, especially the bits about parking place selection and two-finger driving!  ;D

I bounced around for several years between El Paso & Las Cruces (and places in between like La Union (NM), Anthony (the same town is in both TX and NM) and Canutillo (TX). I miss many things about the area , but *not* getting into a hot cage.

IMO, with the generally low humidity in the far western part of the Republic and the southern part of the Land of Enchantment, a hot vehicle is about the worst aspect of the heat -- unless someone is dumb enough to go out into the sun without proper headgear, shirt, and jeans. My rule of thumb was that the temp was generally bearable until it was above 105 F., after which all bets were off.)
