UGG i just had my first bidding experience with Ebay and it was down to the last few seconds...I had the highest bid and at the last second someone came and put in like a dollar over my max bid.... it was a working R65 tach that i needed because mine is broken. I am so....RRRRR!

That is not shady - that is the way of the world.
The best eBay advice I was ever given, was to bid the maximum amount you are prepared to spend, and then forget about it until it is over. Last second bidding wars will only drive you crazy. So will spending more than it is worth, just to beat the other guy.

It's called 'sniping', there are programs available to outbid the highest bid at the last possible second before the auction closes.
It's quite effective, one of the many reasons I don't do much business on eBay anymore.

That's why it's an auction, and it's just the law of supply & demand in action.
I've been snaked on lots of items and it really bothered me at 1st too, but then I realized that if someone's willing to pay more than I am, then so be it.
You also don't really need software, I've bid several times when there were 15-20 seconds left on the clock and won.

I've had pretty good luck on ebay by figuring out what you are willing to pay for it, keep an eye on the bidding and if it doesn't go over your amount put your bid in at the last 30 seconds. Continual bidding on your part just gets a bidding war going.

I use a Snipe website nearly all the time, and feel no guilt about it as it wins me the auction (which is the highest bidder sale after all!!).
It means I never spend more than I decide at the start, I can be at work, or anywhere else for that matter, when the time is up so I don't have to hover over the keyboard (possibly getting caught up in a bidding war).
I don't always win, and in that instance my bid wasn't high enough, or another user Sniped my best bid, but that's the name of the game, and I am philosophical about it. There's always a part around the corner you'll get that will be better than the one you lost!!
Bill.................;-)

but, but, but... Don't you now have that way cool Vapor multi-instrument that I'm lusting after?
When I get MY Vapor I'll have my R65 speedo and tach up for dibs. Of course, Purposely Disorganized folks will have first shot.
And speaking of eBay... I paid for my R65 with the proceeds of an eBay auction for a Randall knife that had been in my family for almost fifty years! Yes, I've been ordering a few parts of late but my initial bike buy ended up as a net zero cost. For me, eBay been belly, belly guud.
