Title: Fuel Prices
Post by: Bob_Roller on January 02, 2008, 10:18:43 AM
Just wondering what members on this forum are paying for fuel these days ?

Here in Phoenix, it's $2.86 US per US gallon. ( 87 octane, regular grade )

I'd like to here from members outside of the US as well.

About the same, here, in North Texas...

Here in price gouge central (SF Bay Area) you won't find gas under $3/gallon.
The average here in my neck of the weeds is probably about $3.27 for regular,
and $3.45 or more for supreme.  I've seen it as high as $3.85 up here.  We're
already fully resigned to it (eventually) reaching $5/gallon here.  Why so much?
Because they can!  Supply & demand are BS.  They charge what they can based
on the economic strength of the area.  Here where a rundown outhouse sells for
a million dollars they figure we'll pay any amount for just about anything, and
they're mostly right.  It leaves those of us who aren't rich really struggling to
make ends meet.  Luckily the bikes get awesome mileage!

7.80 US dollars per unleaded premium US gallon in England  :'(

I never pay any attention.  My only other option would be to ride my bicycle a hundred miles a day, and while I would get plenty of exercise, I would be killed by a log truck some dark rainy morning.  12 years to retirement, hopefully.

I`m almost afraid to post this...but sheesh..what the hell...It`ll give the number crunchers something to do..and prove whether Nintendo really CAN train one`s brain......

Dublin,Ireland. Standard Unleaded generally selling at €1.15.9 per LITRE.
Premium stuff up to €1.27 per LITRE in many places......Ok away you go.....lets see how that converts !!  ::)  ::)  ::)

Ballpark figure with a conversion of $1.47US per Euro, and 3.82 liters per US gallon, gives a total of $6.51US per US gallon.

At Phoenix prices, that would be about .75 Euro per litre.

Yeah, here in the US we must seem like snivelers when we're crying about
fuel costs that are often times less than half what they're paying throughout
the UK and Europe.  It's too expensive, no matter which side of the pond
you're on.  It just makes me glad the bikes get so much better mileage
than (most) cars.  Commuting turns out to be cheaper, quicker, greener,
and most importantly more fun!  I typically burn about $14/week riding the
Multistrada to work, vs. at least $60/week in my truck.  No brainer!

Don't feel too guilty about being better off than those on the other side of the pond.  The liberals almost have our gas prices in line with what they think we should be paying, just give 'em a little more time...

Quick question for the Euro-Crowd - Does the average consumer know/realize just what percentage of the fuel bill goes to line the pockets of government at various levels?  It's spelled out on the dispenser around here, seems to be an advertised 38 cents but that feels low for some reason...

Today the price here in upstate SC had climbed to $2.80/gal. for unleaded.  We've been pretty fortunate in that this area has always been among the lowest in the country, but I have a feeling my luck is about to run out!    :-/

Had to fill up the cage on the way home tonite, and $303.9 was the best I could do.
Also saw lots of $3.06 to $3.09s out there.

Thank goodness the Honda gets 38 mpg at 75 mph...

Here in the lower-middle New Hampshire it has dropped a few cents to around $2.96/gallon, though I did find one station selling it for $2.93/gallon last night.
Heading further north in NH the prices go up to around $3.05/gallon.  All these prices are for unleaded regular - premium adds about .20 to .30 per gallon.
I was in Vermont last week, and with their higher state taxes on gasoline the prices there were averaging $3.10 to $3.15/gallon for unleaded regular.
My cousin lives in Brooklyn, New York and she is paying about $3.55/gallon for unleaded regular.

I wish that we had the mass transportation infrastructure in this country that the Europeans have on the other side of the pond - THEN we wouldn't complain so much about the fuel prices over here.   With the distances involved in commuting to work, etc. my wife and I together easily spend over $100/week in gasoline, and this is with 4 cylinder autos that average between 30 and 38 MPG on the highway, and me telecommuting at least 1-2 days/week.  I ride my motorcycle whenever I can during the warm months, but at this time of year, that option is completely unthinkable.

My CRX gets as good of mileage as the R65 (near 40) and tires are way cheaper per mile.  Even though insurance is more, the car is much less expensive to drive overall.  Which didn't stop me from riding the R65 today.  Rain, rain, rain.  At least my snow has thawed so I can get the bike out without tipping over all the time.

Yesterday's $3.03 was up to $3.14 today, and that's just 87 octane Regular.
The "good stuff" is now up in the $3.20s and $3.30s... :o

It's increased about $.04 here in Phoenix since yesterday, seems like about 6 years ago I saw unleaded regular at $.86 per US gallon.

Not going to see that again, that's for sure !!!!

Bob, I think you're right about the 6 years ago price.  But I think that was a dip, and it had been some time since it had been that low.

Personally if I owned an oil well I would charge all the market would bear.  And I would keep pushing that limit.

I should calculate how high the price of gas needs to be to pay for me to convert my CRX or (gasp) my R65 to electric power, to be reasonable in price.

Actually both bikes would not be hard to convert to ethanol fuel, though I don't think burning food is a good way to transport myself.  But who asked me, right?

Heh heh!  This topic sure caught everyone's attention!

I'm in Northern California north of San Francisco.  I got gas for the car over the weekend and it was about $3.35 a gallon for the middle grade, which my car seems to need.  Luckily I live only 5 miles from work.  I think I spend around $30  to fill it up.  I've got a 1991Toyota Camry that gets about 25 - 28 mpg.

I really should start riding to work.  40 - 50 mpg is soooo much better.   ::)  I've got to figure out a way to get my bike put away by myself.  I still have that darn curb to go over and the slope up through a gate.  Practice, practice practice.

A moot point right now as the bike is waiting patiently to have her charging system fixed.  (sigh)  And it's raining cats and dogs outside.

More on that in a separate thread!   ;)

Between 7.00 and 7.64 $ per US gallon here in Denmark, luckily I live only six minutes from work by bicycle, so I do not have to use my car or the Wh8la2.

I often have meetings in a town about 100 miles from my hometown. The roundtrip on the Wh8la2 costs me $31 for the gasoline, $2.5 in oil and $7.5 in tires. The depraciation amounts to $31.75. All in all $72.75. With luck the trip can be done in three hours, which gives $24.25 per hour.

Should the weather be foul enough to force me to use the public transportation, the same trip would cost me at least $77 and last more than six hours.

Your choice?

trolle, your bike is not depreciating any more, if it ever did... is that some tax scam?   ;D

You should fix your oil leak.  My bike needs less than a quart of top up over 5,000 miles.

Of course that quart gets artfully displayed all over the bike.  Weird.

Yeah it is a great protection for the engine and other artfully sprayed parts against the brine, we have to drive through in winter.

I'm not sure how much a gallon it is over here these days as the euro-nazi's have made us go metric, but it's £104.9 a ltr , and its just cost me £21 to fill the tank on the RT (I think thats about $40 US).

Dick Turpin (A famous higway man) at least had the good manners to wear a mask!

Here in upstate SC, I paid $2.78 per gallon of regular unleaded.  Could be worse, I suppose.

And how in the Hell did Britta's photo get in Ken.Turnock's post above?

The price for a USA gallon of 87 octane regular in the Phoenix area, looks like the price hit it's low this past week at $2.67US, as it's started to go back up, it's now at $2.78US.
