Does anyone have experience with a Russell Daylong touring seat on a 1983 R65? I've noticed one for sale and am curious if it a good fit for this bike. Thanks!

I know a lot of BMW riders swear by those seats, but they are the ugliest thing you can put on a bike......Dew.

I agree with Dew about the looks, but my butt can't see. Mine is great. If you are used to scooting your butt around in hard corners, be aware that it's not easy with a Russell. Probably not even possible; I just stopped doing it.

It's my understanding that the Russel Day-Long saddles are custom made to fit a particular rider. It may or may not be as comfortable for you as for the PO. They are ugly, but I hear they work wonders!

msbuck is correct, but I confirmed that mine was made for a rider only 1 inch shorter than me and about the same weight, so I gambled a bit and won.

I know I need to do something for my bike. That "miracle foam" that Sue and I bought is not working out so well for me. It is bad when it gets uncomfortable during a 20 minute commute. It seems to have gotten much worse just lately. Could just be my skinny butt. The Pepsi never goes where you want it... [smiley=1drink.gif]

I bought a Russel off e-bay and rode it for about two years but I can confirm that it was not built for me. I ended up getting it rebuilt before my trip across the country last year.
Like my Russel. :)

I decided to stick with the stock seat for now and have it re-covered. I had an '84 R80 RT years ago with a Corbin touring seat and it fit me perfectly, so maybe I'll find one for sale for the R65. Thanks

Rob, in lieu of immediately spending big bucks, you might want to consider something like this 1st.

Gel inner pad w/nylon or sheepskin outer cover, adjustable strap and quick-release Velcro underneath. I just added this one a week or so ago, and haven't taken any big rides yet, but it definitely makes a difference in the comfort department. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Where did you get that gel thing? I want to do some distance riding soon and my butt starts getting numb way too soon. I've got the old style brown seat. :o

I just got a new seatcover from motobins for my LS, and was starting to shop for some of that
miracle foam, but now I think that I'll hold off on miracle foam and see if I can find something
that might be more appropriate to stuff in there....
I'm open to input/ideas (the Russell seats ARE very comfortable, but if just wouldn't look
right on an LS model, even if it would fit, which I doubt given the differences in the rear/rail section).

I found this particular one on EbayMotors, just did some searches in motorcycle parts for "gel pad", "gel seat", and dozens of various models popped up. And VA Steve, the newer black seats aren't any improvement over the old brown ones in the comfort department, lemme tell ya.

New they run about $90-100, but I found this "like new, used only a couple times" one for $45 + $10 delivery.
Like I said, my furthest trip so far's been maybe 50 miles, but there's a definite improvement. It does raise you up an inch or so higher, though, so if "vertical challengement" is an issue, this may not be your best solution. Otherwise, I'm quite happy with it ;)

Wow. The winner stole that seat ~$62.00 not bad for a $500 seat.
