Dick here.
Was lovely weather last Tuesday, Blue sky, white fluffy clouds sitting above the mountains, cool but not cold. So, having gained permission to go AWOL for a few hours from the minister of war I set off on one of my favorite rides.
As I wafted through a pretty mountain village a police car went by with both occupants giving me the evil eye. At the the next village one of them stepped into the road and pulled me in. Had I broken the law? As it happens, No, they recognized my bike and it turned out to be the very bike one of the cops rode when he was a bike cop.... even offered to buy it. He was quite misty eyed when I declined.
What are the chances of that?

i wish my incounters with Johnny Law where like that. its cool he knew the bike well enough to know it as you passed by.

I just stumbled across this website for police bikes:

I had a motor officer wave at me the other day! 8-)

Sound like a much nicer outcome than you get when Cumbria plod give you a pull.

Wow,
What are the chances? An encounter to remember. 'Bout a quarter century ago I use to get pulled over, low bars, drilled discs, barking pipes, 1/4 fairing, rearsets. Cops wanted to know what the hell it was? Some fun.

Rich, you are sure making 25 years sound like an awfully long time ago! :o ;D

Melina,
Well my goal in life is to be a curmudgeon some day, streching it out like that helps me feel I'm closer to my goal :)

The older I get, the younger old people look! :o

Just following on.... the thing that confirmed the bike used to be his was that there was a sticker on the side cover with his name still on. Since learned that is quite a collectors market for ex cop bikes. Wierd.

I still don't care much for cops. They have a hard job, but I just don't like most of them. When the law gets after me on my motorbike I usually run. They cant catch me, Ive had too much experience with this type of thing. Run ahead, get off the road and hide. They zoom right on by. No danger to me and not much to them. Easy and simple. No doubt I will get flamed severely for this!!! Dew.

Actually I will congratulate you. If I tried it I would get caught. Then they would really be pi$$ed!

FWIW on the topic of evading the police.
A friend of mine, who shall remain nameless, recently was chased down by the law. Before he could disappear there were motorcycles, cars, SUV / K9 & helicopters all after him. All involved in less than five minutes. He is not eligible for review to reinstate his driving privileges until 2012. The total for all the fines was approx $15,000.00 & and a five year jail/prison sentence. The sentence is in abeyance. One ticket for any traffic/vehicle infraction & off he goes. This was on his R1 Yamaha. He is still upset about all this.
He told me that the the bike was suppose to do 115 mph in first gear & actually only does 105 mph. He now lives very close to his work.
He really hates those traffic cameras.

A late night visit with a shotgun will take care of those traffic cameras......Dew.
