In semi-preparation to kinda begin planning for my semi-retirement, I'm fixing to ride out this morning to look at some land and at least 1 fixer-upper farmhouse, about 20 miles out in the country. I'm hoping to find something in the 4-7 acre range, quiet, mostly wooded, with a modest house that needs some work & either an existing barn/workshop or room for a nice large one.
I'm already laying the groundwork on the job, to take what, on paper, amounts to a "demotion", but to me only means much less stress & a closer commute. So I won't be a "Supervisor" any more: big whoop, let one of the young folks have the headaches & pressures associated with the title, I've already done that for 18+ years. Now, I'm ready to just be responsible for my own work again, especially at roughly the same salary. Being "the Boss" doesn't mean much to me any more, and the whole government/human services field has become so stressful and complex that I don't want to play there much longer.
Anyway, armed with my tank bag & some printed Yahoo maps ( need to look closer into GPS), pen & paper, digital camera and cell phone, I'm off. The nice realtor lady wanted to load me into her Bimmer sedan, but I told her I'd rather do it on 2 wheels and would let her know if I found something interesting.
