Anyone have or have used a TwinMax and have any comments on it? The reason I am asking is I found one at a yard sale still unopened in the original packaging. Paid $40 for it. The guy said he bought it and wrecked his bike before he ever needed to use it. I have been using my homemade $5 manometer and have been pretty successful with it. But I am also a gadget junkie and thought it was too good a deal to pass up. All comments welcome.

I had a Twinmax and it never was sensitive enough for use on the '81 R65 .
It quit after 4 uses, I have used the oil manometer since .

I've got a Morgan Carbtune, which works well on my 4 cylinder bikes as well as my airheads (on the airheads you have to hang it upside down as it effectively changes its scale/sensitivity that way). The original TwinMax was used by alot of folks, so I think that it can be made to work, though when I found the schematics for it I noticed several ways it could be improved. One critical thing - at least with the first model I saw - is that you've got to make sure the battery you are using is fresh - the accuracy and resolution is significantly affected by dropping battery voltage as it didn't use any real DC regulator in its power rails.

I have used a TwinMax and found it very easy to use and effective. By way of checking the results I switched left and right vacuum connections to check for machine errors and think it to be pretty good.
I should add however that I have zero experience with other balance devices so can not compare with other methods.

I reckon it will be just fine.
The thing about our lovely old cows is that you could waste a lifetime trying to get things like carb balance "perfect" when in fact somewhere within a bull's roar of perfect will do just fine.
I use a couple of highly inaccurate vacuum gauges I have had for decades - I use a calibrated eyebrow bit of windage for their know inaccuracy and like Michael I then swap the hoses over as a double check.
I am utterly confident in this method as it works on the KLE which is the most balance sensitive little engine I have ever had anything to do with.
