Title: Closing Yahoo Account
Post by: Bob_Roller on May 18, 2012, 11:53:52 AM
Don't know if anyone would be interested in this or not, but here goes .

My credit card was used to pay for a membership on a porn site located in the UK, London, back in February of this year .

I contacted the card issuer, disputed the charges and closed the account .

About 2 weeks  later, I started getting porn related emails on my everyday email account with Yahoo .

It's gotten to the point, that I am ready to close the affected Yahoo account due to these porn emails .

But, they sure make it difficult to find the page to accomplish this .

In the upper right hand part of the page after you sign into your Yahoo email account, there's the MyY! icon, click on it .

Scroll down to the bottom of the page on the left side, click on Terms Of Service .

A blue box will appear. More Helpful Links, click on Account Security .

On this page the left side will have a section, Top Articles, click on How To Close your Yahoo! Account .

Follow the instructions on the next page .

Bob,

I'm not sure if you went here before, but you can click on the following link followed then by clicking on the "Account Termination" link.  Each time you open a new page, you will likely have to sign in again:

The steps I posted, were what I had to go through to get to that page .

I started on my Yahoo email page, if there is a shorter way , I missed it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Only took me 5 minutes to get there, I didn't think about putting it in the search box, until after I found the backway in .

Bob, you may already know this, but are you opening the emails and clicking "remove from list" or some other similar message? The senders blanket random email addresses, and opening them confirms to the sender they've hit a valid email address, and the frequency of the porn mail increases quickly.

I just code them as Spam and leave them unopened, then empty the trash and clear the Spam file once a week or so. The emails should slow and stop arriving before long.

I only opened the first one, because I didn't recognize it .

I selected the spam classification everytime after that without opening them, but they just kept a coming .  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

They will continue to show up until your yahoo email address is closed out, and the email delivery failures bounce back to the spammer's systems.   After a while, the spammers' system will drop the email from the distribution list if it continues to fail, but you will already no longer care or worry as you won't have that email address anyway.  It is about the only way to deal with it.

If you know how to set up a filter in your mail program set one up that looks for the word "unsubscribe". This blocks a substantial amount of nonsense.

Or, you could just quit using the address and let 'em "spam-away" at it?  Do you want a bmwr65.org e-mail address?
