I turned the speakers on today, wanted to listen to a video, no audio, if I pull the plug out of the computer slowly, I can get a 60Hz tone, so I know the speakers are good .
I plugged the speaker system jack into a portable CD player and the speakers are confirmed to work .
Any idea where to start ?
Last time I had them on, was two weeks ago, I watched the supersonic skydive and it worked then .

Is it Windows 7 by any chance which has a particularly stupid feature (one of many) in that the operating system auto detects when a an audio device is plugged in. If it decides that there isn't a device plugged in (even when there is ) then it will stop the sound working. Sometimes rebooting the PC will resolve it.

I just figured it out, I went to control panel, speakers and sounds, found the mute box checked, have no idea how that got checked, I know I haven't been in there before !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

Maybe your neighbors at work didn't like listening to the skydive video?!?
There are a few other applications, such as shockwave flash player and some others, which, if you hit the "mute" button on them they can set the registry key in your OS's audio driver to "mute". So, even if you didn't go into your audio controls settings yourself, some apps will do it for you whether you realize it or not.

was someone else in your place watching videos that they didnt want you to hear ?

No, no one has ever had access to this computer, except myself .
That's the strange thing about it !!!

That's what we in the business call a "Fat Finger" ...
There's probably a "Magic Keystroke Sequence" that will mute your computer.. Or a function button...I could loook it up.. But nah...
And when we fat finger the keyboard..Or lay something on it.. Or whatever.. Sometimes we find a magic keystroke...And something really strange happens...

My cat will jump up on the desk looking to get his lil head scratched and prance on my keyboard and he gets things on the screen that I have never ever seen before!!!

Well, it happened again, I noticed today that the speakers were mute, don't know how long it's been like this as usual .
Still don't know what I'm dong to accomplish it !!!!
Easy enough fix, thankful for small favors there .

Any updates install recently? I have them sometimes reset some of my settings (but I have not had that happen with the audio).

Just the usual Windows and Adobe updates .
But at least I know where to go correct the problem .
