For the electronic mavens, wizards and enthusiasts among us...
Which end of a resistor is the positive (+) end? Thanks for any help.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no polarity with a resistor .
-
There is no polarity with a resistor, but if you happen to have "special" type of resistor used in super- precision sensing applications, some are designed to have a current flow direction in a particular way. IF you're not building something for NASA's next telescope, then no worries, either way 'round is fine.
If you are READING the color code on the resistor, THEN there is a difference which end you start from.
-
When reading the colored bands, don't you start at the end closest to the end of the resistor?
Boy, that was a long time ago!
Correct - no polarity (for us common folk).
-
Thanks, gents. No worries now. Monte

I was taught this little ditty as an aid to remembering the resistor colour bands as an apprentice nearly 35 years ago.
Ok this is a bit rude but thats how remembered it!

A maven is a trusted expert in a particular field, who seeks to pass knowledge on to others.
I learn't a new word today. We are all Mavens on this forum !

I'm married to a 33-year veteran teacher. SWWBO makes me do it again and again until I get it right... if you get my drift. ;)

Seems Monte and I went to the same school of ditties....

A very long time ago in a galaxy far far away....
We were taught to put the ring end to positive but theres no reason other than a tidy board unless your going to Mars with it !! its diodes that have to be in the right way if you want them to work.

THAT'S what I was thinking of! Thanks, Lou. I owe you a brew. [smiley=beerchug.gif] Check your fax machine. Monte
