for sale on eBay... Seller says it will fit all BMWs, from /5 through 95 R100... Anyone know of any reason why this wouldn't fit my R65?
I had one on my 78 R100 and can't say it ever saved the day-- but I enjoyed monitoring the oil temp anyway!

I am not sure, but I thought that the 78-80 R65 bikes had a shallower sump/oil pan than the R80/R100 bikes of the same period - but I think by the 81 model year, all the bikes had the same oil pan/sump depth and used the same length dipstick ? I may be confusing things with the earlier /6 bikes....
My initial thought is that it would work - it should fit the oil fill hole, anyhow - some sumps it may stick deeper into the oil than others.

I have one on my '81 R65 since 1989, I'm just not so sure of the accuracy of the reading .
I've checked the accuracy of the indicator, and it's within 5-10 degrees F.
But I'm quite sure that while the engine is running, only 'splash' oil is getting on the dipstick, just don't know how accurate of an indication of the oil temp that is .
If the price is reasonable, it may be worth it, but if bids get ridiculous, pass on it, it's not worth it .

I may become a 2-dipsticker-- one for checking oil, one for gauging temp... Or might figure out a way to use both at once and control them with a "dipswitch". :D Seriously, Thanks for all the good input!
