Not being one to leave well enough alone, I would like to purchase some thin copper head gaskets to raise my compression. Anyone know where I can get these......Dew.

About the only place to find these are on eBay these days, and I've seen them go for over $60.

I installed a set on my '81 R65, and trust me it doesn't raise the compression a noticeable amount.

I only did it to possibly enhance the heat transfer between the head and the cylinder due to the hot environment that I run the bike in,  doesn't look like it did anything there as well.

Only positive thing about them, is that they are re-useable, just heat them up with a propane torch to anneal them, and re-install them.

If you do get a set, make sure you use cylinder head sealant around the cylinder studs, if you don't I can guarantee they will leak oil. Mine did !!!

After having installed them, I wouldn't bother with them ever again, especially with the cost today, I got mine from San Jose BMW / CC Products, and I paid $22 in 1997.

Dew

I did a quick look at the RealOEM.com parts website, and I don't know for sure what year R80 you have, but it shows that the cylinder head gasket is the same part number for the R65 and R80 model bikes.

Think I would rather hop up the R80 first. Its embarrassing being out run by a 650 ( a friends R/65). I had to go get my R65 LS and out run him.....oh no officer....we weren't drag racing.....Dew,
