Title: New guy With An R65
Post by: Rich_A on June 17, 2018, 07:09:42 PM
New to the forum my name is Rich I live in New Westminster BC Canada just outside of Vancouver, Thanks for Adding me!

My first bike was a 1982 Yamaha seca 650, then i owned a 1992 CBR600 F2. both in the 90's. have been without a bike for 20yrs! omg how did i survive!

I've bought a 1980 R65 Cafe racer, had it for about a month and a half and love it so far. it has some problems poping up so i'd though i would come to forum seeking some knowledge. ;D

Here she is...

Where are you hiding a battery, under the gearbox or a little lithium one in the tail bump?

The guy who built this added a small cross bar just under the front of the seat. The guy i bought it off tucked a small 8 cell Antigravity lithium battery there. its kinda sandwiched between the bar and seat. I'm going to have to change it cause that battery is way under powered for this bike and just not compatible with the charging system, it keeps going dead on me.

Thanks!
Rich

It's hard to tell from the pic what you have for gauges of dash lights but if you don't have enough resistance in the circuit to replace where the charging light was that will cause the battery to get drained. It requires a load in the charging circuit to energize the system. An 8 cell Antigravity lithium should be enough for these bikes. Check the R65 FAQ/Procedures ( third thread) on how to add a resistor to the circuit. Cheaper fix to try than a new battery.

It has a an aftermarket Tach with a charge/battery light bult in. but thats a good idea never thought of checking that. its very possible that it might be an led light in there with not enough resistance. Thanks!

really nice cafe racer. Just to share my experience with Antigravity battery. Got a AG801... was flashed after 200kms.. do not understand why : everything was changed : wiring, M-unit controller, rectifier / regulator designed for LiFEPO4 battery. so think about it before change from acid to lithium battrery. If you have any good combination RR and Battery I am in !
