Title: Yet Another New Member
Post by: Frank I on May 19, 2019, 09:00:14 PM
Howdy from Austin!

Last week, I purchased a 1982 R65 with 4700 miles on it.  Now, I wait for it to be delivered to me.

Not only is this my first R65, and my first BMW, but it's my first motorcycle.  I'm sure that I'll have a lot of questions, but I'll be sure to search the forum before I ask them.

I'm looking forward to the adventure!

I'll post pics when the bike arrives....

Frank

Hi Frank, I'm also in Austin!  There are a few beemers around town, I swear I saw an R65LS the other day.

Hopefully you've taken or are about to take the MSF safety course?

Let me know if you have any questions or want some hands on advice, I also have a few specialty tools that might be useful (i.e. the exhaust nut wrench).

Awesome.  What part of Austin? I'm far north (MoPac/Parmer).

Scheduled for next week. I've already taken the e-course portion.

I get around, but the garage is in north Austin, I'm super close to the '58 brewery district and Cuznbob's motorcycle repair. Last time I had a tire mounted I had them do it.

The bike finally arrived, last week.  Here are a couple of pictures, as promised. I've already seen some derision toward cafe racer conversions here, but that's okay, because I like it, and that's all that matters.   :P

Ugh.  I was afraid that wasn't going to work.  Let me try it this way.

If you are happy, that's all that matters; everyone has different taste.  Looks like a fun machine.

I want to see that fairing, been considering something very similar myself!

As far as pictures, you can use google photos to share albums and stuff with varying levels of privacy.  Under the share option, you can get a link to each photo or album.

I haven't been able to get the picture to embed directly in posts, recently.

Welcome.

Love the San Hose brace, even if it is not really needed on an anything close to standard R65.

The fork brace is a good move.

I have the same deep sump on my R100 - beware gutters.

Am I safe in assuming that it will use the same oilpan gasket?
