Anyone know of a close match for the Polaris silver easily available in a spray can (or touch up bottle) from duplicolor or some such company/supplier ?
-
I can't help you directly. However, my experience has been that if BMW used the same color name on their cars from the same time period, it is the same paint or very close. ColorRite is a good source for matching motorcycle paint, but they don't go back that far.
A decent autobody shop should be able to either match the color, or direct you to a source. It may not be cheap. If you have the BMW paint code, that would help with matching the paint.

Polaris-Metalic paint code 060 was used from 1970 onward for the following models:
R45, R45N, R45T, R45TN, R65, R65T, R65LS, R50/5. R60/5, R75/5, R60/6, R75/6, R90/6, R65 Mono (all), R65RT Mono, R80 Mono, R80RT Mono, R100/7, R100/7T, R100T, R100RT, K100, K100LT, K100RS, K100RT
ColorRite can provide custom rattle can paints. You may need to make contact and see what they can do for you. Some of the later BMW models have the Polaris color you're looking for. And since their motorcycle years do not go far back enough to list your scooter, ask about the K-series years.
Good luck with your search. Be advised that paints do age and change their "stripes" as the years go on. As such, a perfect match may not be possible. Close enough for gubmint work.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I know of colorite but I'm trying to find a close match in a readily available on-the-shelf spray paint.

Do the silver LS's have a clear coat over the colored paint ???
-
I'm not sure but my bike seems to have a clear coat, and it might be a respray.

BMW's silver paints seem to be among the most affected by age and UV exposure as far as color shifting goes. I think that the Henna Red is a close second!
