Hello guys!!! Long time no see!!
So my R65 finally stopped showing mechanical problems, so it's time for make up and looks!!
Always liked these crash bars... Anyone knows where to get them?

I bought some one eBay search German eBay most sellers will dispatch internationally and use auto translate on goggle to make life easier, I sold them on though as i did not the look of like them once i had fitted them , however make sure you get specific ones for R65 as other models stick out too far due to the cylinder length which can be a liability.

Just Crash bars... these are the only ones on Ebay.De at the moment, not the type you are after

If you don't like ' crash bars ', cylinder protection bars sound less deadly !!!!! ;D

I've both bought and sold R65 crash bars on Ebay. They are usually listed as Crash Bars, Engine Guards, Engine Bars... Here is a pair listed there now for the twin shock R65s; although a bit scuffed up, they would polish up nicely, and the price is right. There are also several single bars listed.

Another good place to call is Re-Psycle BMW parts, http://www.re-psycle.com/ . They are a very good source for used parts, at fair prices. They also had a pair of Krauser bars for sale as of a few months ago, very much like the ones you've linked to.
As a side note, no crash bars currently listed, but there are several nice sounding R65-specific goodies now listed on Internet BMW Riders marketplace site, http://marketplace.ibmwr.org/ads/raps. That's another excellent site to keep a frequent check on.

While I'm here, let me go ahead and mention that I have 2 R65 complete centerstands with springs and spacers, and a lowered R65 seat in excellent condition, built on the original BMW seat pan. This seat was on my '82 when I bought it, but was a bit too low for me, so I removed and replaced it with a stock height, but much less good looking seat. It is built on the '81 - '84 seat pan, and includes the cowl and roundel, in blue. I also have a complete final drive and a pair of stock shocks, but think I'll keep those for now.
If anyone is interested in the seat or center stands let me know and we'll work out a deal. I'd much rather sell these here than hassle with strangers on Ebay, although I've done it before and probably will again... :P

From the for what it's worth department...When I bought my '81 R100 new the first accessory I wanted to purchase were crash bars. Surprisingly the dealer R.B. Johnson advised me to forget them. He said BMW designed the valve covers to slide with the sloped corners on the valve covers.. He said he had seen BMW with crash bars go down and the bars would cause the bike to flip end over end. He said why spend $$$$ to protect a valve cover that cost much less. I have only seen this personally proven on my one get off and the valve cover and bike had minimal damage.

I tend to agree with this. I think in a low speed spill the valve cover will take the damage as they are quite substantial. There is also a view that when a bike goes down crash bars can cause a high side. Taken together those arguments were enough to persuade me not to fit them.

I've never thought about it, but I suspect you are right. Ah well, at least they are a convenient mounting point for driving lights and give you something to rest calipers on when the front wheel is out.

I find the crash bars to be pretty useful when riding long distances. I've got the BMW ones, kinda triangular shaped at the front of the cylinder only. You can rest your legs stretched out on them for quite a while (I'm 5'7 tho).. They also take some of impact off the cylinders in a (would I risk saying moderate?) about 50km/h fall, the crash bar twisted and definitely got very gouged, on a sealed chip road. The rocker cover also took a lot of the brunt, replaced that too afterwards. Bike ran fine.
