Hi all, I have enjoyed this form for a wile no, learning and reading of all the joys of owning and riding a real classic.
Well I got myself one and have spent the last few weekends in my garage fixing her up.
What a joy to ride and very simple to repair.
The nice thing about this old lady is the RS fearing.

I see that your early model r65 frame has worn the centre stand stops and I rather bet it is becoming a struggle to get on and off the centrestand.
It is relatively easily fixed.

Thanks for all the comments, it was al long interning learning curve.
Over the last 2 months I have replaced the battery, rebuild the Bing's, drained all the oils replaced with fresh new oil, leant to ajust timing, set the valve, repaired the starter, fitted new exhaust.
My biggest frustration was the rusty tank, I eventually had it sorted out at the local radiater repair shop.
At the moment she has been stripped for a respray.
I am giving her a nice Silver outfit!

What's the vintage of your bike? Flat-top Bings and ATEs I'd guess 1979. Maybe 80?

Monte, you know your BM's, it is a 1980, 65000km on the clock.
It runns very well and is great fun to work on.
Oil consumption was high, but this forum was very helpfull in sorting out the problem.
Breather was cracked and I tryed to keep the oil on the full mark.
I can not wait for the newley painted parts to come back from the paint shop.
Our weather is nice and warm this time of the year. Good for riding.

If yours is going the same way as my wife's, the wear is on the receivers on the frame, not the stand. That said, I fixed hers by welding a wedge shaped piece of stainless steel onto the stand as I cannot weld malleable iron which is what the frame components are made of.
Still, if you don't tell, I won't and it will be much, much easier to get on and off the stand.
It is relatively easily fixed.

Thanks Tony, you have a sharp eye, I took the centre stand off this morning and just as you spotted, wear on the stand stops.
On my one it had been welded before, so I cleaned it up with the grinder and took it to a friend to weld.
Welding is not one of my strong point[ch128540]
The frame on myne looks good, not much wear, the bolts holding the stand were slightly lose, so as soon as I got time I will put it back with a good dose of grease.

The ground contact points on the centerstand will also wear down to the point that just getting the bike up, over n' onto the stand is a hernia-inducing experience. This stand is off my R100S. Best to inspect both the chassis-to-stand contacts and the stand-to-ground points.
Also, if your R65 has the US Civil War 'mini-ball' as a foot contact, keep an eye out for the later R65 centerstand that has better geometry and an honest foot pad. Saves ruining your boot sole. Added the newer style stand to my '81 R65 and that made a world of difference.

Well, got my new painted bits back on Friday afternoon.
Took me 5 hours to get it all back on the bike, but is must say she looks rather pretty!

That was the first thing I did to mine and I thought it looked so much better in black.
Make sure to take pictures of the underneath before you start.

Just a belated thought here.....you can still get those R65 decals for the battery covers. Now if someone doesn't chirp in immediately I might have the time to try and find the source.

There I think I might have found a good source which everyone likes for good service and reasonable postal timing and rates. I did see the R65 although the above link would seem to be just a link to the page for R90
