The number of errors in the forum log for "embedded scripts in URL data started increasing a while back so I turned on the "Guardian" feature that automatically blocks any further activity from the offending IP address. Usually it's a "guest" trying to access something that is only available to registered users.
This is a hacker procedure for trying to break into a system. After the old forum was basically ruined and taken down by spammers I vowed it would never happen on this one.
Not trying to be a hard-a$$ (despite some of the e-mail I've gotten recently) but don't think any of us who have been here long enough to remember want to deal with the problems of the past.
Thanks for understanding,
-

I don't even know what that stuff means.

Me either, Cousin Ed. We be Luddites, ya? I have to get my 10-year old grandson to set up the DVD player.

I can't even imagine you being a 'hard-a$$', Justin. Thanks for being on guard for us!! I'll attest to never wanting to go through that spam fiasco again. You're doing an outstanding job, Justin, and I, for one, appreciate it immensely.

In case the newer members have not heard what happened, in mid September, 2006, spammers / hackers took total control of the R65.org site and rendered it unuseable .
It had to be shut down ( more like 'put down ' [smiley=rifle.gif] like a rabid animal ) and start a new site about 7 weeks later, the current version we have now .
Just in case you don't understand where Justin is coming from and how serious he takes it .

If only I knew what you guys were talking about :-[
Anyway, thank you for continuing to protect what is without doubt (IMO), one of the best, most knowledgeable and friendly forums.
Thank You

Much appreciated, Dave.

When somebody tries to access a certain subject, post, area, via a direct URL, and they embed a script "data" in the URL in hopes of gaining back-door access to the system. According to the error log these have always (at least the ones I've looked at) been by "guest".
I only posted this little warning so that "real" members might be careful accessing topics via direct URL and make sure they don't "fat-finger" something into it that might get them tossed... If this was to happen I can un-ban you but it's still a hassle for you...
