Title: Brakes...again!
Post by: Semper Gumby on July 22, 2008, 03:06:03 PM
Well after 40,000 miles in 3 and a half years the EBC brakes on the R65 are shot.  The rotor it self is fine but the carrier (the thing that bolts to the wheel) has elongated where the "button" meets the carrier.  This means the rotors are flopping around and I cannot balance the wheel properly.  After a short discussion with EBC, they are out of warranty and larger buttons are not available for the R65 EBC rotors.  Needless to say I am miffed.

Like I said the rotors are hardly worn and EBC will not sell me a new carrier and buttons.

So I'm in the market for some BMW rotors.  Just thought I would let you know.  I think 40K is too short a time before replacement.   >:(

Bill,

I don't know if this company can help you out or not, but Spiegler rebuilds BMW rotor and carrier assemblies.

Their website is http //: www.spieglerusa.com.

Click on ROTORS, then BMW conversion.

Gee, I wonder if my original rotor is still in my brother-in-laws garage?  :-/

Picture of buttons?  If you are talking about the rivets that attach disc to carrier/hat maybe using a short grade 8 capscrew with nut would work.

Don't buy Grimeca's from Motobins,  Both mine have warped in considerably less that 40,000 miles - i.e. less than half that mileage.

It was actually in my grand scheme to use an ebc disc as a replacement as I understand it was also lighter than the cast iron alternatives offered by Motorworks and Motobins.  Ho hum!

Looks like I will have to give it some more thought

cheers for the 'heads up'
