Title: Airhead Stuff All Gone...
Post by: Rob Valdez 79 R65 on May 04, 2013, 08:59:39 PM
A friend came today with his van and took all of my boxes and 1/2-assed rolling frame (no rear shocks/swingarm/wheel) and left me with a cheap, but recently rebuilt silver flute (his profession) in it's place.

I must say, it certainly takes up a lot less space!

I may park my car in the garage when I go away on the bike for a week this month!  :D

 :(

Where are you going on your bike for a month?  Inquiring minds want to know.  Or have I missed that info somewhere else on this forum?

Good ol' Rob will journey x-country on his high zoot Honda to meet up with myownself and Bengt Phorqs -plus many others- at the annual Boxerworks Rally near Big Cedar, Oklahoma. The site is just six miles south of the beautiful ride on Arkansas's Talihena Skyway.

Phorqs and I take off just a week from today, Thursday. Got our passports ready to be stamped as we cross the Red River into OkieLand. Ain't just the Rio Grande that we Texans gotta keep an eye on. ;D

I'm sure I'll have a ride report and some embarrassing paparazzi photos to post -unless the usual suspects pony up and buy me off... again. Gotta fund my retirement accounts some way, yes?

Except that I chickened out and cancelled my plans.

You know how I am, Aïda...  :-[

I'm going to stay home, instead, put my feet up and forget about my I.D. card (for work) for 10 days!

I may do an overnight trip in Southern Indiana I had planned last Oct.

I am already daydreaming of a /2 sidecar carcass filled with Li-Ion batteries and an electric motor... 8-)

I still want to stick with two wheels though, which will limit range.

Thanks Ed!

Have you ever tried a sidecar?  Actually you have to pretty much own one for a while to fully appreciate the shits and grins aspect.  But besides that, other road users actually SEE a hack on the road.

And standing on the left footpeg makes swinging one's right leg over the seat SO much easier!  And I'm already regretting abandoning my shaft drive.  I'm not even sure I would be happy with belt drive, either.  It is probably just as fussy about wheel alignment just like a chain & sprockets, but I guess you are an old hand at adjusting a chain Ed, what with owning a Triumph & all.

Well, at least a flute is easy to pack up if you want to make your own music at the campsite!

It would have to be a campsite miles from another person - with very forgiving wildlife!

The chain is easy compared to replacing my front sprocket.  I do like shaft drive, even with that unmentionable boot.

Does your Triumph have that uncommon countershaft concentric with the swingarm pivot set-up?  I understand it has benefits, but added complexity, much like an enclosed chain.  Yes?

I don't know what that is, so I guess I don't have it.   :-?

I think you are right that your bike does not have that feature.
