...but been busy.
The R65 sit a bit forlorn in the drive this bright sunny day awaiting it new PC680 to arrive in the mail. The old one (04/2004) died this morning at 0600 and I had to ride the BSA instead.
At 116000 miles the R65 is still plunking along. The motor is a bit noisier. I've got a rattle in the 2500 - 3500 RPM range that could either be lifters, valves, timing chain or possibly a bit of detonation if my Bosch Iridiums plugs are too hot. The tranny is still completely original and the rear splines have only been replaced once. The K100RS front end is still the best money I have spent on the bike. The Omega ignition has outlived the US distributor (is there another?). The Omega Alternator is still working but with a new voltage regulator from Rick.
At 40,000 miles I threw out the NGK BPR7EIX plugs. I fiugured it was time. I was trying to cross reference to some less expensive Champions but the numbers they mention just don't seem right to me: RN9YC seems really hot.
Busy Busy. Hope you are all well.
The BMW Motorcycle Club of Georgia is putting on it's rally in Hiawassee Georgia this spring. So if'n you can make it we would love to have you all. I think I've still got the flag around here somewheres...

In admin mode, I have seen that you're gone for 4-8 weeks at a time without posting here .
I was a bit concerned that things wern't going well in your life !!!!
I'm glad to hear that you are just busy .
Other possibility, was that you were in 737 training .

I *wish* it were so Bob. Unfortunately I'm pretty far down that list. Prolly sometime in 2014 if all goes well and the creek don't rise.

So Bill, you're still on your original timing chain? I'm getting up around 90,000 miles but I don't know if I should swap mine out yet. I'm not having any problems that I know of. I did buy the parts when I picked up some stuff from the Beemershop last month, just in case.

Ed, if you don't see any issues, black rubber bits on the oil filter from the rub blocks on the chain tensioner, rattling from the front of the engine or a jumping or erratic timing mark when checking the ignition timing, I wouldn't tear into it at this time .
I replaced the original chain on my '81 R65 about 15 years ago at 45,000 miles, had a rattling/vibration, I was told it most likely was the timing chain .
I replaced it, no help, it was the beginning of the transmission bearings going bad due to water in the transmission .
I kept the original chain and plan on reusing it when this chain goes bad, if it ever does !!!!!!!!!!!
With 3,000 miles a year of use now, I don't foresee doing too much major work on the bike .

No Ed. Its been changed twice. Once by me at about 45,000 miles and then when I had the head rebuilt by Boxerworks, Nathan changed it again and the two forward lifters. I didn't ask why about the chain. The flat surface of the lifter was a bit chewed up though. I wonder what my cam looks like now....
