Well leave it to Monte to come up with a good one. He's been sick as a dawg for about 2 weeks now and finally beginning to make a comeback. Me, I'm having my right knee replaced next Monday. So he mentioned to me in an email this morning that we were two Geezers On Old Beemers. That would make us GOOB's for sure.
In the hierarchy of things I always figured you had to be at least 55 years old to be a Coot, 60 years to be a Geezer, 65 to be a Codger, and at least 70 to be a Curmudgeon although that is open to debate. And one more thing, you can be an Old Fart at any age. ;D
-
I'm honored to have attained "Coot" status. Not sure about "Old Fart" status.
-
Im still pre-Coot myself (whew!)
Hopefully not an old fart either, but I suppose that my nieces and nephews may disagree with me on that.

BP,
Good luck with your surgery. It's been about a year and a half since my total right knee replacement. Give yourself a good 10-12 months for full recovery. You'll be walking within 4-12 hours post-op. Prepare yourself for a painful 1-2 months. Take your pain meds! Important to take them at the prescribed interval, not only when the pain get's difficult to tolerate. Follow through with your rehab and work hard - the results are worth the effort. After that - look forward to a new life with absolutely NO pain. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself. Best of luck with your surgery, I'm very excited for you.
Monte, get well soon!

Best wishes for rapid recoveries.
-
Good luck from a certified "grumpy ol' fart"...
-
Thanks for the good wishes. I'm ready to get on with it an begin the physical therapy. Hopefully the end result will be worth it.

OMG! Can women be Geezers too? I might be one then! [smiley=shocked.gif]
Hey ladies! What do you think? Can we get to be GOOBs too? ;D
-
Interesting thought Melena, and one I must admit I never considered. Female coots we have known? Hmmm, Granny on the Beverly Hillbillies was definitely a coot. So was Marjorie Main in the Ma & Pa Kettle movies. Now Shirley McLain would certainly have to be classified as a curmudgeon. Phyllis Diller would be a coot but not Betty White. Or would she??? But geezers, now that is something entirely different. Gabby Hayes, Walter Brennan, and Newt Gingrich would be geezers. I suppose you could be a geezer if you would like to be called a geezer. ;D

No - that's not me. But he (I) am wishing you the best, Bengt Phorqs!

I think that old Coots can be funny and entertaining, so I would think that
1. Yes, women can be old coots
2. Betty White qualifies hands-down as very funny, entertaining, and well above the minimum age.
I do know some elderly women who are also Coots, and at least 2-3 who are very curmudgeonly..
-
Shouldn't lady geezers be called "geezettes"?
-

So, are you saying she is a hoot of a coot?

Only if they're wearing knee-high, high heeled, white vinyl boots and shaking their pom-poms. Terrible mental image, that.
BTW, got a call from Mike Bengt Phorqs Crenshaw this afternoon. He was in his hospital room and had successfully completed the knee replacement procedure. They will keep the Geezer until Thursday.
Mike sounded amazingly chipper and happy.
Then, he mentioned he was on a morphine drip... ;D

Give him my best and tell him not mix his drips...

Began the physical therapy (PT) today. This morning was OK and I did really well in the afternoon. But lordy, I'm paying for it now. Would someone please remove this icepick stuck into my knee bone? Thanks to everyone for the good wishes. I'm sure I'll pull through but it will take a couple of months to get back on the old beemers and GOOBdom once again.
-
In the meantime have you turned into curmudgeon? :o You will revert back to GOOB even when you're riding again, won't you? :-?
Glad to hear you're on the road to recovery. ;) They say that pain is good for you. ::) Don't ask me who they is though. ;D
-
Glad you're past the worst, Mike... Remember that there are longterm benefits, which I discovered when I went down with the full weight of my Bonneville on the titanium knee (replaced in 03)-- it proved to be more bulletproof than the motorcycle. It's good to have at least one bionic joint!
-

My guess would be lawyers. ::)
I visualize Ol' Mike enjoying his pain killer meds while dreaming of a physical therapist along the lines of Pamela Anderson in a Frederick's of Hollywood nurse's costume.
What he's gonna get is a former Marine Gunnery Sergeant that'll be in his face telling him he's a slacker and to, "Drop, maggot, and give me fifty."
I plan to visit the poor fellow, offer sympathy and sip his Shiner beer. Really, what are friends for...
;) See ya soon, Mike. Lemme know which bikes you'd like me to exercise for you.

Yes, well, wouldn't that be special?

More likely Nurse Cratchet from "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest". Sure Monte, just drop by Namby Pamby land and help yourself to my coolerator. Hey, does Percoset go well with Miller Lite? Actually the Yami TY250A hasn't been started in a few months and if you're going to give that thing a whirl at the Harvest Classic in Fredericksburg you need some practice time.
Going home tomorrow! Then the fun really begins.
-
I wish you well on the knee recovery. The physical therapy is very important to the recovery, and be sure to take you pain meds before therapy.
-
Yea, I'm home! Hospital stay went well and the PT will be a challenge but I'm going to be religious about it. We're setting up the clinic here and beginning the regimen. Thanks to all the GOOBS out there for all of your very good wishes!
-
Glad that you are home and recuperating, Mike! Before long you'll be able to use your new knee to kick Monte in the arse again.. :D
-
Mike, Being a certified geezer, I guess it is ok that I'm a bit behind the curve on this whole Goober and bent knee replacement discussion. So I hope your recovery continues and that you will be up and kicking soon. D2

Now I am really an old geezer as I don't have a "portable computer" on the bike and have been away on the bike. Missed this whole thing till now!! Yikes, Mike......all the best and as a fellow "some definition of old person", I want to follow this whole knee fix for you very closely. I bought one of those magic massage therapy tiny portable electronic units at the MOA rally in Sedalia and so far have found it marvelous and the therapy is done right here at home and in my own time...not to mention it is already paid for!! Anyhoo, that type of TENS therapy may be down the line for you at this early stage. The wee machine seems to put out the same massage levels and types that the big machines do in the physio's office. So just google magicmassagetherapy.com if you're interested to find out about it. I got it much cheaper at the rally though....much! Also, I haven't had a knee replacement...just a recently tweaked knee from a twist and earlier injury when young.
Glad you are feeling better Monte!! We'd miss it if you two don't do the "battling Bickersons" roles!!
Old hags and witches are ladies...hmmm....the Thesaurus suggests crone, beldam, frump, old bag, old hen or a grammer. The last being the best sounding. :)

I hadn't thought of those Sue! ;D Good ones. Crone is okay. That's a wise woman in the Wicca tradition. ;)

Sue, I'm pretty sure that Monte is back up to speed. Just today he sent me a note bragging about he was able to whine his way "negotiate" a better deal on a small Briggs & Stratton fuel valve for his Kymco scooter.
Actually I've used one of those electronified massage machines before. If you're not careful you can practically electrocute yourself. No, the problem with the knee is arthritis. The bone was just too damaged. Tonight is a pretty good night. I haven't had any pain killers since about 13:30 today and hope to make it through the night. Flexibility is improving almost daily. Still a couple of months from swinging a leg over a bike though. It's all about the physical therapy and paying attention to the doctors orders.
