I was 'awarded' moderator status about 10 days ago .
I sent Justin, the chief in charge of R65.org, if he would have a problem with me 'culling' the membership, as there were a lot of members that were not any where near being active .
To get to the heart of the issue, I inadvertently deleted a member, airhead, who passed away about 4 years ago .
In my email to Justin, I made the comment, that 'airhead', Bill Emery, would not be removed for any reason .
In my deleting process, I incorrectly checked the box next to airheads entry, I noticed the error, I clicked on the box and the check would not disappear, I clicked on the cancel icon, nothing happened, I hit the back button, still nothing, waited about 30 minutes, tried again still no progress, I hit the refresh button and the entries were deleted .
Don't feel real great about this, but I figured I needed to say something about it .
Sorry Bill !!!! :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Ah, well, an honest mistake. Probably not your last. I had a boss tell me once, if you never make a mistake, you're not doing anything.
-
I did not know Bill aka. Airhead, but I appreciate your honoring his membership and his memory. D2

There were 3 members that wouldn't be deleted, airhead, Rev Eddie, who was involved in a fatal motorcycle collision in Atlanta a few years ago and Mick, who rode his '81 R65 around the world .
If you haven't read his blog on his trip, go to the members section and put his name in, his profile should have a link to his blog site, as of a year ago he still hadn't finished it, but it's interesting reading none the less .
My parameters for deleting members were, if you have not been online or posted in 730 days, or 2 years, you were deleted, made 1 or 2 postings and haven't been online in 600 days, you were deleted, if you registered and haven't made a posting in 180 days, you were deleted .
Membership was reduced from 1072, to 618, as of last Thursday .

Bob, I don't believe Bill "Airhead" Emery would be upset with you. Or us. I thank you for reminding me how much Bill assisted both myself and many other R65ers during the time he was with us.
I lift my glass to Bill's memory. [smiley=beer.gif]

I've done worse...

The worst thing a honest man can do is to make a honest mistake... you will be forgiven, When "Pooh" passed away the Classic bike forum guys put is old avatar (a picture of Pooh Bear) in the top right hand corner of the welcome page with another well loved member, something you may wish to consider.

Thank you Bob for stepping up to the plate. Don't worry about the boo boos. No one here will throw a stone at you as we all live in glass houses and make mistakes all the time; I mean I do i.e. It is the admitting them that is the hard part and you are very forthcoming about it.
-
Well, at the very least, you can continue to enjoy Bill's Photobucket account!

Hi Bob,
Thanks for stepping up.
Any chance you can give me some more details on "Mick" and the R65 around the world please?
All the best with the new role :)

I think the"Cull" was more of a masacre we have gone from 1000+ to 622, time to reload must be out of ammo by now. [smiley=rifle.gif]

Yeah, I had a lot of ammo that was coming up on it's 'best if used by date' !!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
There was some sort of reset on this forum, the day I 'culled' the herd, it was 1218 days ago, over 200 members were at this number, their last postings, were in excess of 1500 days, kinda made it easy to find them and delete them .
In my email to Justin, he said he had a 'more liberal' viewpoint about deleting members, but if anyone get pissed for being deleted, they can blame me !!!!!

I post, therefore I am alive and have survived ;)
No worries Bob, thanks for volunteering. We raise our glasses in toast to your baptism.

Bob is definitely a bit more bloodthirsty than I!

I'd better chime in here. :D I got waylaid by life and didn't show up here for awhile. But I'm still around.
Glad to see you helping out Bob. Glad you didn't delete me! I'll show up more often. Really I will. ;D
