Title: New R65LS owner from IN
Post by: jordancs on June 19, 2012, 10:04:55 PM
Just wanted to introduce myself.  Recently picked up an 82 R65LS, and am proud to be a part of the BMW family.

Had to replace the tires, floats, a float bowl gasket, and some fuel lines, but it is running now and putting a huge smile on my face.

Thanks for all of the great info on here, looking forward to learning a lot more about my BMW.

Edit:
Here's a pic.  Going for a cafe look, so I stripped off a lot of plastic, but I want to be able to restore it so I'm not cutting anything up.  The previous owner repainted the tank.  He tried to match the red but ended up a little more... orange.  I'm going to try to strip it down over the winter and repaint it, but I really just want to ride it for the summer/fall so I will deal with the poor paint job.  It still gets many more looks and compliments than my previous 2 bikes.

Welcome aboard, Jordan!

Post up a pic of your 'new' BMW when you can - resize it to 800x600 (max) or smaller to fit nicer in the browser window.  We love pics.

Howdy, Jordan. Welcome to our asylum.

You may want to consider some sort of rear fender to protect much of the electrical guts. Maybe save some future concerns.

Have fun. Ride safely.

Thanks for the welcome!

I am having a co-worker cut me a fender to fit in there for some protection.  I wanted something smaller than the stock one, but also didn't want to cut up the stock one should I choose to restore it.  But I couldn't resist riding it!
