Hello everyone. I just picked up a 1986 R65. The last BMW I had was in 2002. It was a R1100RS. I have wanted another BMW since then. The bike I purchased was sitting since 1993. That was the last inspection. A little surface rust on frame and other parts. The bike started after about an hour. Not bad. I changed the oil and rode it home 30 miles. Now I am in the middle of restoring it. I send the tank out to clean and recoat.

Welcome aboard, Ed. Another mono-shocker joins our herd. [smiley=thumbup.gif]

While you wait on the tank, you may want to consider running through some basic maintenance chores that will establish your baseline of service. Valve lash is very important as is the lubricants in engine -plus filter-, transmission, driveshaft and final drive.

How are those 19 year-old tires? Bridgestone Spitfires are a nice choice when you get ready to spoon on some fresh new rubber.

Post up some snaps when you can.

Thank you. I am going over every part of the bike. The tires look good. I do not know if they where changed. I will look for the manufactuer date.
